AB2012: It obviously depends on the game. I wouldn't want to change NWN into an ARPG, nor want a turn-based Age of Empires.

Orkhepaj: isnt nwn realtime? I played with buddy and it was realtime
Real time with pause in single player, but pause button is deactived in multiplayer/online play. Contrary to e.g. Diablo, the real time combat is still based on turns and dice rolls though.

EDIT: Ninja'd.

I don't mind FPS, Action-adventure, Action-RPG etc. But RTS without pause is a waste of a strategy game. I need time to think, dangit. And I'd like to slow down or pause to take in the spectacle.

GeraltOfRivia_PL: I like both
lol! yea me 2
Both.

I really like real-time w/ strategic pause like say BG1, BG2, NWN1, NWN2, Dragon Age Origins.

And I enjoy turn-based like Fallout 1+2; and XCOM Chimera Squad.

Depends really on how well executed it is and how much I like their version of the combat is. More different types of games w/ different combat styles, the better.
