Not really.

If I feel like a public FPS game, rarely (last game I played of Left 4 Dead 2 in co-op online years ago ended with me gunning down a tryhard who thought they were going to tell me how I and the other people at the time should play the game).

When my oldest nephew was slightly younger I'd play a few games with him (stuff like Don't Starve Together) but mostly I go for the singleplayer experience where applicable.

Radiance1979: Just joined in my first game tourney since years. For the coming weeks i will test my mettle against other humans in this test tourney mechanism phase for a 2d ww wargame.

It is fairly exciting to join i might add, from the early rise this morning, no not because of the game!, to the sudden discovery the tourney would start today. Gathering my units and position them on the map.... Just went for a balanced approach, maybe a bit artillery heavy with a couple of scouts and now a bit in doubt awaiting the move of my fellow general.

Do you guys.... old grumps, participate in online play, against strangers? do you have nice neighborhood filled with welcome contenders or do you just game in silence?
I I haven't played any games online with strangers or with people I knew that either my relatives or online friends in a long time. The last game that I have ever played with strangers online was Diablo 2 and with relatives was Diablo 3. I don't play multiplayer games online any more because there is no co-op mode with a lot of modern titles and I prefer a co-op mode over a deathmatch mode or a battle Royal mode. Probably the next games that I am going to play multiplayer online is going to be is Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4. Depending how multiplayer is going to work with Diablo4.

the last years co-op does seem to enjoy a sorts of revival. You can even play strategy games such as total war warhammer in co-op mode. Anthem might be another excellent example, not to mention the hordes and hordes of diablo clones that allow co-op too. Did you ever check out Grim Dawn btw ? also with a co-op feature though not a necessity, one of the better diablo clones i came across during my years of isometric action role players enjoyment.
big plus, comes with controller support straight out of the box
I don't really like multiplayer, if i play online i try to do everything solo unless i have no choice. Cooperation with some people is nice but everything with competition is not for me.
95% of my gaming online is with friends and family. I prefer to play with people I know. I've been a part of a local/LAN group since 1997 and up until the Covid-19 crisis we met every 2 weeks on a Sunday. I've brought my kids there and now my kids bring their kids. Mostly fighting games and a few FPS. Towards the end they started to support MOBAs but the crowd for that is small. It's normally just fighting games on HTPCs.

Last year I joined Steam to play with my grand kids so that has been fun but I don't normally play with the public.
Update round 11 - 4 turns left

game 1 : working my way into a decisive defeat

game 2 : working my way into a decisive victory

Not sure if this will be the case, my fellow opponent is a nasty piece of work. Gave me a lot to consider.
Will thank him at the end of the match

Oddities : striking similarities in thinking patterns gave me the distinct idea i'm fighting against a mirror now and then
