Parents either don't care or are completely oblivious as to how "graphic" games are these days.
The few times I've visited a retail store I've always seen parents buy violent games for their kids.
Not long ago I heard what seemed like a 12-year-old ask his mother to buy Black Ops 2 for him, which she did.
Back when I was young, parents didn`t care what games the kids played. We also played indizierte (German for: nearly forbidden games/movies/music) games like Raid over Moscow, Rambo and the like.

Did you have lawn darts?

Now that was a game! XD

Well lawn darts wasn't a computer game. I guess I went back too far. :P

Oh, you mean the times when people lived in caves and considered it to be fun when they catched members of another tribe and fried them? Yeah, back then the gaming industry was very inventive! :-)

blotunga: Well Duke had strippers and lots of gore. Oh don't remind me of Mortal Kombat fatalities. Or Strip Poker... of course you have to choose the games based on the child's maturity, that was my point really.

zeogold: ...this explains a lot about you guys, really.
Enlighten us doctor Freud? Will we make it?

As a student of psychology, I can say with 83% certainty that I'M going to make it.

You'd be surprised at some of the things in E-rated game that go under the radar because people don't think about it.

And that's just Mario. Sonic's guilty of vandalism. I'm sure if people thought more about E-rated games, they'd be surprised. Hint: Pokemon.

...pretty sure that's just conspiracy theory stuff that the creators didn't intend. The gore and the strippers, however, you can't exactly write off as coincidental.

Actually, there are some observations I've made. Mario does punch Yoshi in Super Mario World, I happen to have an old cartridge around and saw it before watching that video. Whether or not it was intended doesn't matter to groups like PETA.

If you want to skip that, let's move on to Pokemon. The very nature of it is animal cruelty. Remember Michael Vick, the guy who got into trouble illegal dog fighting? Pokemon is similar to that in nature, you just don't see the blood and gore of the battles, though. No dead animals in forests from battles that trainers fought to strengthen their Pokemon or anything like that.

mechmouse: This is an example of tragic misunderstanding of what computer games are

Uncharted is pegi 16 for violence and offensive language
Yet the parents are upset the the kid saw a badly drawn penis and the word cock, but happy for him to watch people get shot while a greater range of saliors parlance is banded around.

Even better, the kid gets the block of wood replaced with Black Ops 3 version and Uncharted.
The nine-year old boy got a woody. Any redneck parent would get upset about that.

Um...don't you kick a horse in the side to get it going? With sharp spurs? I'm guessing it's somewhat akin to that, but in an arguably LESS violent sense.

To be perfectly honest, I've never actually played Pokemon, but I don't think the Pokemon ever bleed/get killed, they just "faint". It was intended as a kids' RPG, and as such, was basically just that: An RPG with less of the blood, gore, intense violence, and strategy, so that kids could play it.
Pokemon, pure evil

Sentient creature forced to fight in gladiatoral combat for the enjoyment of others.
