Hi everyone I have a problem to connect and play with a friend on steam, I already searched on web solutions and everyone say to use Direct Connection and use the server ID or the IP, in both cases me or my friend can't connect to the game, I already turned on the Direct Connection in the options and in during the game too, opened ports on my router but nothing seems to work.

Anyone could help me to solve this problem?

Thanks a lot guys.

well i had the same problem with a friend not being able to join my direct connection games.
For me the reason was (that i luckily was aware of) that my internet connection is realized through to a DS-Lite Tunnel - meaning having only a IPV6 IP and using a shared IPV4 IP which isn't an issue if you play games via steam and stuff but does mean you wont be able to establish direct connections like needed by Divinity Original Sin (regardless of any routings settings/portforwards) .

For me the Solution was using a VPN to be connectable for my friends - for me it's was a no brainer as i'm already using a paid service (Airvpn) - but most likely for you a free solution like Cyberghost vpn may be sufficient (they offer a free version with free servers and most likely the bandwidth should be sufficient for hosting divinity)
Well thanks a lot for the clear answer, I'm not sure if I'm using a "public" IPV4 and a "static" IPV6, just because i don't know how to see it, but I think this is a case, never tryed to work on my connection as deep as you advice ^^ just because I didn't need it before.

Because I never used VPN connection so far, so everything is almost new to me, anyway I used a web page to get my IPV4 yesterday and did it again today and the IP is always the same so probably I haven't the problem of the IPV4; because of that if you could explain to me how to see if my connection is a DS-lite I could see if this is my problem too or if it's my friend problem.

And one more thing, what is Cyberghost? I mean I'm on the web page but is something that give me a "NEW" and "STATIC" and "TEMPORARY" IP to use for this kind of connection? Or it's a program to run and use it as a server? Just to understand.

Thanks a lot for your patience.
Okay i'll try to answer your questions as best as possible and hopefully without getting too technical.

Regarding figuring out if your internet connection is actually realized as a "DS-Lite" connection or not - depending on how "accessible" your router is it should be stated there on the status page of your internet connection or else-wise it may be helpful if you state which ISP you are using and then may a fellow Italian knows if your ISP is actually using DS-Lite or not - i sadly myself don't have that kind of knowledge for italian ISP's only know it for German ones.

But regardless if you are actually using DS-Lite or just having issues with port forwarding using a VPN most likely can solve both.

An basic explanation of VPN services in general: You'll have to download a vpn client which is a small programm which on launch will establish a connection (more specifically an encrypted tunnel) to a server of your choice (e.g. a server in the United States). While being connected to this server the server assigns a new public ip adress to you (this is how the rest of the internet will see you/the ip your friend will have to connect to). So basically all data from the internet gets sent to this "new temporary IP" and then gets forwarded to your computer/original IP-Adress via the Tunnel. Using the VPN you wont have to worry about DS-Lite or portforwarding anymore as your new public IP address will be a reachable IP4 adress and the "VPN-Connection/tunnel" will just forward the data for you. I hope that explaination makes it kinda clear. Just be sure you would be getting the correct one - the homepage of Cyberghost is: http://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_us (just saw some shady google advertisements forwarding to other pages..)

Thank you so much, you were very clear,I'm a programmer but never did anything that need an high insight with my router and connection, anyway I talked to a friend of mine and he said he was able to connect, via gog and direct connection, to the game of a friend in steam, I tryed to connect via direct connection to the game of this friend using the game on gog but I had the same issue "connection failed" using the game ID, so I have this kind of problem, probably because I'm using a private IP (changed from a public one after several problems of lag spikes) and probably this is why I can't connect to my friends of gog and steam too, well if you said that this Cyberghost give me a new public IP to be used as my "main" IP address I have to give it a shot and maybe I will fix this annoying problem ^^

Thank you so much for your patience and your help

Anyway if could help my ISP is Fastweb.
Ok istalled Cyberghost, it give me a new IP as intended and the web works, skype too, but for example Team SPeack won't work and trying to connect to my friend game I have a new error Cannot connect to the NATPunch server....

I'm really really bored about all these problems....
sorry to hear that. The thing with Teamspeak is really weird - i'm busy tonight but will try to post another reply tmw - or maybe another user offers another solution in time
okay - as promised here is another reply and hopefully now the final solution for your problems :).

That Cyberghost doesn't seem to work as intended as rather unfortunate but i guess there is 2 more things we could try....

a) you and your friend both could try using Tunngle - http://www.tunngle.net/en - this program basically creates a "fake" Lan Environment and may help to achieve connect-ability . They also have a Divinity Original Sin Room under http://www.tunngle.net/en/networks so it seems to work fine with Divinity Orginal Sin.

b) You could try to connect to me (meaning a Divinity Game) tonight (got a timeslot between 6-7 pm CET when it would be easily possible to try it out) - to be perfectly sure that there is no other still unknown problem on your friends end (which only happens in combination with your setup)

Well thank you so much for your effort, I already knew about tunngle and Hamachi (probably the name is wrong XD) but wanted to solve my problem to use the solution for other games too in the future is I would encountered the same issue again ^^, anyway thank you for your offer to play together but this period I don't know when I'm at home so I don't know when I have time to play, so I have to use tunngle if my friends wanna play with me.

By the way seems that I'm the only one with that problem just because all my friends are able to play together independently of wich platform they are using, so is only my problem.

I connected a few times to a friend from steam via gog, but then it just didn't work anymore. I have no idea why and I've been trying to fix it, but I can't find any solution :(

Are you trying it with the normal game ("classic") or with the enhanced edition ?

enchanced.
If your friend is hosting the game, the problem may be at his end. Has he set up any required port forwarding etc on his router?
