It's for some summertime fun! Check out two astonishing upcoming titles from Goblinz Studio:

Oaken is a rougelike set in a mystical world inhabited by spirits with celtic and tribal vibes.

Sandwalkers is an exploration game where you guide a caravan of adventurers through ever-changing landscapes and make choices that will affect your future expeditions.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a studio sticking to what they're good at. As far as I'm concerned Daedalic could have stuck to making 2D point & click adventure games until the heat death of the universe and I'd be happy to keep playing them.

That said, roguelikes are not my thing, exceptions to this are rare, and neither of those two look like such an exception.
I like roguelikes but I don't like rougelikes.

To be fair diversifying their portfolio is a two edged sword. Sure they can stick to one genre and be good with it but the moment that genre became oversaturated and people got sick of it then it will be difficult for them to gain profit even when they make great products. If they branching out and making different kind of genres they might survive the competition but the risk is they probably isn't that good at making different genres due to lack of experience.

Also it seems that they choose roguelike because it's a genre that still selling well. But the problem is there's already too many competition in that genre and they had to compete with the like of Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, FTL, Isaac, and many more. Tough market to break into and we don't know if it's a breakthrough success or just a waste of production money for them.

Seriously, there's enough free tools in the world that the writer could go, "Ah, hmm...which word do I want to use for <i>this thread?"</i> and still not run out for a serious while.
