Received an email from GOG last week telling me I needed to delete some save games because the game exceeded 200mb of cloud storage. Megabytes! Per game! Do they not realize the save file size of modern games?

I was well over that in one game that was no longer on my system, so I had to re-install to easily delete files. At no time when I played this game did I receive a warning message telling me I exceeded storage.

That's water under the bridge. But I urge GOG to reconsider their cloud storage amount, either by increasing it or making it an amount for all games on the system. (Thankfully, I almost never do cloud saves because I don't like to play while online. The game in question was an exception.) At best, players should receive a warning--maybe a refusal to save until files are deleted--rather than saving to the Cloud only to discover months later that they exceed the limit.

Maybe this is a non-issue for everyone. Maybe I need more coffee. But seeing the advertised sale, I gotta say I hesitate to buy games--particularly newer games--from GOG knowing this cloud save problem.

If online features are something you require to buy games, you may want to ask yourself why you're even here.

This was a recent change so that's why you got that message now and not when you were playing that game earlier. I really hope they figure out a better way to limit cloud storage for users too. This is actually pretty strict, especially for modern games.

I trust local save files more than cloud ones. Even Yeshua saved....

Jesus saves. The rest of you take 2d6 damage.

As a wise man once said: "there is no cloud. There is only the computer of someone else..."
We save locally only.
Cloud? I know real clouds way better than those made with bits... so to me "cloud" is either good weather or i would always get disappointed.
I don't use GOG's cloud storage and are unlikely to ... unless coerced into multiplayer by family and or friends.

But a recently imposed file size limit does give food for thought.
It would seem that GOG may be cutting back on costs.
Is that something for us to be potentially worried about.
Or maybe it is just a data management issue etc.

All these cloud backups for all our different devices.
What a bloated web they weave.

Where will it all end?

It's enough to cloud one's judgment. ;)

As much as I can understand why some people are drawn to the appeal and convenience offered by cloud services, I've never been tempted by the such. I prefer to manage my own game saves by keeping them local and by backing them up alongside my offline installers, especially for games I've poured many hours into. :) Even outside the scope of gaming, I've never been seduced by cloud services of any kind, with one exception: I've a friend who runs his own cloud on a server that he owns, so this might appeal to me more, if I only I knew how to do that. xD

I'm kinda sad that the 200MB limit per game pretty much breaks the functionality for X4, the only game I would really NEED it for in my library, but aside from that, it's meh. I'll backup my X4 data on my Google Drive and call it a day.

ur "seduced" double-entendre ain't half bad neither. As for what(or who) we have, or haven't been seduced by, no comment, with reservations((;--))

I feel your fair weather assessment is a bit overcast.
