In the light of the previous update that screwed up everything and I wasn't even able to launch any game that I had installed I do not want to even being notified about updates. How do I turn it off?

1) Delete C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\redists\GalaxyUpdater.exe

2) Add "/runWithoutUpdating" to the Galaxy shortcut

- Right click shortcut > Properties > "Target" box
- Append a space and "/runWithoutUpdating" at the end (without quotation marks)
For example, mine is exactly:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\GalaxyClient.exe" /runWithoutUpdating

3) Disable Galaxy autostart in settings

If you'd like to rollback, here are the offline installers.
https://www.gog.com/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/is_there_an_offline_installer_for_galaxy_20

It would require a full uninstall and then:

Delete
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com
C:\Users\All Users\GOG.com
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Configuration

If you want to disable the update, just be to sure to install but don't launch, do the /runwithoutupdating before starting it up again. I've been using 2.0.37 for a while now.

You would keep your tags, but lose your bookmarks, but easy enough to redo them.

FYI: You should also be able to add the /runWithoutUpdating switch to the autostart setting in the registry.

It's at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\GogGalaxy

Just add the /runWithoutUpdating switch to the end of the registry string. But! Beware if you update galaxy manually, reinstall, or disable and then re-enable autostart in the settings, the switch will be removed. (So just don't do that.)

Also if you want to see this be an actual option that is supported in the settings menu, vote up the request on the wishlist.
It seems to be working. Thank you both.
Rather than outright refusing to update, you can just ensure you aren't opted in to beta builds and when you get a popup, hit the button that delays it and do so until you have the time to check to see if others are having issues.

I'm opted in to the beta builds but I do wait to update until I make sure there aren't any major issues.

I really hate when people are trying to tell me that something I asked I really don't need. This has nothing to do with what I asked and there WAS a major issue with the update in a primary release channel.

Yes, there was, but it's very rare. Just delaying updates until people have had time to try it is a lot more effective than outright disabling updates (which is a bad idea for many reasons).

Please leave. I do not need to be "educated" about updates (especially the ones that screws you completely). Your posts are useless and unhelpful.
low rated
Step 1: Don't open GOG Galaxy.
Step 2: There is no step two. Please enjoy GOG as a traditional store, and download your games manually. If you'd prefer automation, there's a variety of third party tools and clients.

Chill out. People like you get all mad about stuff but then whine when people actually try to offer solutions.
