haydenaurion: Anyone wanna take any bets on what gets removed next? :P
The Duke Nukem games. I'll be glad to lose that bet, though.

Anyone aware of what legal issues are going on surrounding the descent franchise?

Oh yeah, forgot about that one and Randy Pitchford ruining things. I say go all in on that bet! :P
Did Interplay sell the franchise?

Look at the footer of the page. Those darn frenchies playing with publisher rights again :/

Maybe Volition and Interplay are having a laff?

dewtech: snip
Seems like the rights are still with Interplay then. Or am I missing something?

InfraSuperman: ... get ready to read this exact post again in two weeks, only with "Duke Nukem" instead of "Descent".
Is it a likely event? I heard talking about it, but I still have no real info concerning that.
That would be troubling, as i'm afraid I wouldn't be able to buy them before they get removed, either...

Long story short. 3D Realms no longer owns the Duke Nukem franchise and it has passed in the hands of Gearbox. The 3D Realms Anthology on Steam will be removed on 31 December and there are speculations that it's being removed because the rights to the Duke Nukem will change hands at that time.

drealmer7: I'm curious, I never played Descent 3, it never looked like it would be nearly as good as 1+2 so it always remained low priority for me. What do people here think about it compared to 1+2?
I played a lot of Descent 1 in the 90's and only played Descent 3 on GOG for a few hours (don't have time) but from what I played it seemed good, just like Descent with different maps, I didn't notice anything that would make this sequel utterly horrible .

mmmmmmm.....

I would like this publisher thing to get clear because I'm really tempted to throw an e-mail full of insults (in French so it will have more impact on them) if they're really behind that stunt.....

Lots of hate, now, me angry, GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Konrad: Due to changing hands and in-flux legal agreements, we just had to remove Descent 1+2 & Descent 3 + Mercenary from our catalog, effective immediately.

We do want to apologize for not being able to give everyone more of a heads-up, and we will be doing our best to bring them back.
Is there any legal reason that hinders you from telling us this a few days before it takes effect?
It sucks that the Descent games got removed from GOG. :(

I'm glad that i bought them all a while ago.
Damn, I hate it when games that I don't own get removed from the catalogue.

If anyone still happens to have a gift code for them, I'm very willing to trade.

Maybe that they didn't know if they'd be able to keep it up, and the new company wouldn't say anything until the deal was final. If they don't know days in advance, they can't tell us.

Likely they got some takedown notice today (or very recently) with order to take it down right away so probably had no time to offer any kind of promo.

Both is possible. Either is that they didn't want to create additional sales for a publisher that behaves unfriendly. That's why I'm asking (and why I don't expect a blue to answer) ;)
