It's been a while since the last time we whined & complained about GOG's shmup situation, so maybe this'll liven things up a bit.
Deathsmiles is a really good one, too. It's probably their most accessible game, and it's pretty.

Hopefully Degica will at least throw their games up on Humble before long. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to sell me games.

Like I said before I can understand GoG not wanting to release all indies Geometry wars or Touhou clones... but not wanting to release classic CAVE's games... sigh... hopefully they will change their minds.
Frankly, I'm really happy GOG disclosed their position over games from Degica. It makes it much easier for me do just do not spend my money here anymore. Why should I? rejecting some of the biggest shmups form Japan, but allowing stuff in early access? Nope, not anymore.
Salt in the wound, bumping this thread.
Oh yeah, this thread still exists.

...I don't really have anything to add. If GOG adds these games I'll buy them again.

I'd buy... an awful lot of Degica's catalog if GOG actually gave me the opportunity. Everything from the Cave shmups to the Muv-Luv visual novel that's out soon.
>GoG
>Refusing to bring CAVE DRM free

W-w-w-what has happened to my beloved GOG senpai?
Well I guess that our only option for getting these games is steam.

But it's freaking Mushihimesama, so I think it's worth it in this case!

Ah my favorite thread is active again :)

I'm waiting for the day GOG rejects the upcoming DoDonPachi DaiFukkatsu. With a quorum of three essential games we can then create GOG's own Cave-themed meme collage.

But, honestly, looks like Degica stopped worrying about this a long time ago and moved on. With that the minuscule chance for a miracle GOG release probably also disappeared. In the upcoming Steam summer sale I hope to complete my Degica collection, no point in holding out anymore. At least the whole situation gives me an excuse to wait for deep discounts, since a half-ass Steam release commands at most half the price in my eyes still.

I guess the alternative is just to bug Degica to put it on Humble or Playism or something.
Meanwhile, finally an excellent and DRM-free shmup appears. Not Degica, not GOG, but since all interested parties are in this thread already...

Any more information? In particular, any pictures or videos?

It is based on a freeware game called just Mecha Ritz, which was excellent and complete on its own, and nobody was expecting a new version.

Mecha Ritz: Steel Rondo is a big update, it's a whole new game with new branching stages and such. There is a couple of Youtube videos of the new game, but I don't want to watch them and spoil the joy of the first blind play. Here is a video of the free version. The art style and music is peculiar, but crafted beautifully nonetheless. The stages are characterized by tons of interesting mid-boss fights, and in general action never stops. Controls are as tight as it gets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdY-zdM34IA

You'll see a "rank" at the bottom, which changes dynamically based on your gameplay and adjusts the difficulty. Jaimers is a very experienced player, starts the game with a high rank, and drives it even higher. So the video demonstrates very high level play, everything is super fast. Lower ranks should be doable for less experienced players.

Btw. Here's the download link for the freeware game: http://www.freem.ne.jp/dl/win/8513
Give it a try, it's always been a big hit over at the shmups forum.

Btw2. I wrote a simple binary hack to set rank freely, and lock it to a given value/range. It is meant as a practice tool to play high ranks, because when you get hit rank drops, and the practice run becomes meaningless until you increase it again. So I lock it to a range slightly above my comfort zone. Let me know if anybody wants to try it out, and I'll upload it somewhere.
