Some will work out of the box, some won't, some will need you to go through a few hoops. GOG Support will not be able to help you (since you will not be on a supported platform), but the forum may be able to assist you in getting the games to run. So do check the game's subforum before buying to get more info.
Debian should work like what JMich have said.
But for Linux games, Puppy Linux is not a good choice.
