I'd just like to sound off on something real quick, and I don't know any other forum that will let me do it. Could the media stop reporting every Covid-19 death of a "celebrity"? Whenever it happens, I have no idea who they are, yet somehow they deserve to be on the front page news. They're worthy enough to get a mention, as if they're a household name. But I have to look them up to see what they've done to earn celebrity status.

It feels like a slap in the face to all the normal people who are dying of the virus. Do they get on the front page? Do they get a special mention? It's so snobbish in a way. This D-list celebrity who died of Covid-19 is more important than Joe Six Pack who died of Covid-19.

We get it. The virus is going after everyone. Maybe there's something to say about how it's even going after nominal celebrity figures. Message received. You don't have to trot out their names and mug shots for ratings or attention, okay?

If people are reading the news, they already lost.
I don't get it.

1. News are reported to the general public, not you specifically. So whether or not you know a celebrity is irrelevant.
2. Their deaths would get reported either way, regardless of the cause of death. It's about their death, not COVID. During a pandemic it's just more likely they died of the pandemic and not cancer/overdose/old age/car accident/sexual relations with a blender.
You've just noticed that there's something wrong with "the media"?

Next up... "what's wrong with the internet"?

I guess you should provide every media outlet with a list of celebrities you know, so that they know who is "worthy" of being in the news.

While I certainly agree that the continual stream of the "cult of celebrity" pushed in our media is empty, decadent, and distasteful...

... in this case...

... where it's been difficult to express in meaningful terms to the general public the severity of the virus / pandemic, I think the deaths of celebrities -- those often felt by many to be shielded from the "regular world" by money and / or power -- can be a bad outcome (certainly no one wishes for anyone to die) having a positive effect. While you might not know a particular celebrity, someone will... and if that death makes even a few "regular people" take this pandemic more seriously, all the better IMO.

A celebrity died from Covid-19?
I didn't hear of it. I guess you consume the wrong sort of news.
People die every single day all over the world. Many of them seem very unfair or particularly sad circumstances and nobody blinks an eye. For some reason our culture is broken to the point that the court jester is the highest paid and most respected. Our media is as broken as our priorities. As others have already stated, the media is lying garbage and best ignored. It is a cancer trying to manipulate public opinion rather than report and inform. Their time spent on the court jesters and nonsense just proves how meaningless and riduculous the role of the media is.

Sadly there are probably hundreds of normal people all over the world that deserve to have their deaths reported over the court jesters, but the media just discards them in favor of garbage level, state sponsored trash
By reporting the deaths of celebrities due to Covid-19, it raises public awareness. The man on the street might not encounter anyone else (especially being isolated as we are) who has died from the disease, but having Joe or Jane Q. Celebrity die from this virus might cause people to say "Hey, this could happen to me too if even famous people get killed by this thing". I say keep reporting on the deaths of famous people because of the virus. Hopefully it will save lives in the long run.

Maybe change the type of media you read? I mean I prefer to read not filled with info about "court jesters and nonsense" but to each their own.

You are addressing the wrong people and should be addressing your own media about their BS.

But then how would he get a daily dose of feeling superior to all the soulless minions of orthodoxy?

Anyway, I don't know what's with all the jester hate. A good comedian is a treasure.

Probably because they tend to eat lynches better used elsewhere.

Human beings watching the news = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDe2Xp5DJNM
Think of all the people that you knew existed thanks to knowing about their death. For people outside the US / unfamiliar with that celebrity's field, that could be the first time learning that there actually existed ''Country Music Legend''s and ''Pop Idol''s.

It could also raise awareness among those who have heard of said celebrity. And I'd much rather this kind of celebrity reporting in the news rather than them lecturing us dirty peasants about the importance of xyxy relevant topic.
