I would like to be able to play those games on a Mac without having to play them in a virtual machine (although they work fine in Parallels, getting Parallels and Windows isn't really cheap... and also, installing Windows in VM would consume about 15GB of additional space if you install some newer version of Windows... Windows XP doesn't consume as much space, but Alice Madness Returns seems to run slower under Windows XP, probably because graphics memory for Windows XP in Parallels is limited to 256MB).

BTW... American McGee's Alice comes bundled with Alice Madness Returns for PC.

WineHQ database of games that are compatible with Wine (compatibility layer that can be used to play Windows versions of games on OS X and Linux without having to install Windows) says that Alice Madness Returns has "Platinum" status (which means that it should be fully compatible and run without any issues) if it's played under Wine for Linux, but under the standard version of Wine for OS X the game can't run because of some compatibility issue with EA's DRM that the game uses and that seems to be the only issue with it that prevents it from running under Wine for OS X.

From what I read, Linux users seem to have a different issue with EA's DRM and that their issue is that when they update Wine that EA's DRM "thinks" that it's a different computer even if nothing from their hardware changed... so they can't update Wine if they install that game.

So... since games on GOG are DRM-free, if GOG could somehow get the rights to sell those games without EA's DRM, that would be great... if the only issue that prevents OS X users from running that game is because EA's DRM isn't compatible with the standard version of Wine for OS X, then theoretically it wouldn't have any issues if the game became DRM-free.
You'd certainly wish this to happen. As EA didn't release a new game on GOG since a long time. By the way, American McGee's Alice is not bundled with Alice Madness Returns... its only bundled if you bought the DLC or the Deluxe version of it which is not sold through Origin directly, but you have to get a key for it first. The standard edition of the latter game simply does not have the past game along with it.
It's not just "EA's DRM" that is a problem, EA itself is an issue. They own the rights to both the original and Madness Returns and are exceedingly unlikely to release any of their titles outside of their own download service (Origin), especially on one that is strictly DRM free like GOG. That would be like Valve deciding to sell Half-Life 2 on GOG, its simply never going to happen.
