I downloaded The Bureau and XCOM (2012) one night, and they're both CTDing with no error message. The Bureau crashes on loading the second level, while XCOM does it when firing a rifle. Of course the first thing I did was verify the files on The Bureau, and it downloaded 200+ MB, which tells me something was definitely wrong... but it's still crashing on me at the exact same spot. What do?

Edit: Well, The Bureau seemed to crash every time I loaded that level while offline, whether running the game through Galaxy or not. And I haven't been able to reproduce that crash in XCOM. Both games want to redownload specific files every time I verify them, maybe that's normal.

There is no way to tell without more information, like system config (OS, graphics, etc.) and which X-COM game (there are half a dozen and I'm not going to search till I find the one released in 2012 for you)?

Make sure you don’t install to program files or x86.
If using galaxy, close it completely and run from installed game.
If it’s reproducible then put in a support ticket.

This doesn’t sound like a corrupt install. Also, have you checked the game sub forum?

Guess what, the OP didn't invent the confusing naming of reboots! (even the original X-COM had different names (UFO/X-COM))
There's no error and no hyphen!

And when you say no error message... do you also mean no errors in your event viewer logs? Windows 10 has a habit of hiding some application error popups by design.

I'm more than happy to use my experiences to help others with their technical issues. I am less happy when I have to work hard to understand what the problem is, when a little effort when framing the question would have alleviated my extra work.

(I have actually purchased all (6?) of the XCOM games, but I only played the (2014) X-COM game, and I just bought the sequel in this sale, too, and I look forward to playing it once I have enough download data capacity to retrieve it, in about three months' time.)

Anyway, your correction does not alter my observation (that more information is required). Actually, I cannot imagine how asking a question (in the general forum, no less) would be faster than opening a trouble ticket with Gog. ("I wonder how many topics in the XCOM forum have this as their subject" is a question that cannot be suppressed at this time. :)

you have to hand ten bucks to the installer to install the game properly, that's how corrupt it is

I don't disagree with you - I was just trying to point out that all the old games are called X-COM (with hyphen) and the new ones XCOM (without hyphen). So XCOM (2012) could only be this one: https://www.mobygames.com/game/xcom-enemy-unknown ;-)

Actually the first game was called UFO: Enemy Unknown it was just rebranded X-COM: UFO Defence for the North American release (the game is British in origin). And to make matters worse, the European PS release of 1995 was called X-COM: Enemy Unknown.

I would like to know the reasoning leading to this convoluted naming strategy.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown seems like an inside joke mixing all those names together.
After playing The Bureau some more, it seems to have a weird issue where the game CTDs at specific points if I'm not connected to the internet. It also happened upon killing the muton boss and the sectopod boss.

I have no knowledge of The Bureau, so I cannot comment. But I have completed both Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within (just this morning, as it happens) without a connection to the interwebz.

Did you open a problem ticket with Gog?

Then that is even more confusing, since the Gog product page lists the release date as 2014 (probably the date of release for the expansion, Enemy Within).

Release date: March 7, 2014
And the OP was also asking about a completely different game, The Bureau, which is a shooter (not a TBS) so I don't have it. (And it was released in 2013.)

edit: link spaghetti

I use Mobygames to find information about games. They list all separate releases - GOG doesn't.
https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/x-com-series
2014 is the release year for the "Complete Pack". ;-)

@OP: have you tried this:
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Bureau:_XCOM_Declassified#Crashing_during_the_first_mission_in_the_room_with_the_plane_suspended_from_the_ceiling
It's a different location, but who knows, maybe it solves your crashes too.

Thanks for the link. :)

For comparison, I just checked Deus Ex. 32 retail bundles have been released!
