Good afternoon

So, as the title says, I’m considering trying to do a Let’s Play for my first time. Any suggestions, or advice, would be appreciated.

I have a few games in mind but I’m curious as to what would you would find interesting to watch.

Dishonored
I love this game. It’s also a game that I’ve actually finished; a rare occurance. Would you want violent death and destruction, without doing the alternate methods, or as close to a ghost play through as I can manage?

Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Also love this game though I never finished it. This would not be a violent run and gun because stealth games are the best games.

Mark of the Ninja
Nothing really to add here

Mass Effect Trilogy
This would be fun I think however it would take quite some time. I also don’t have all the expansions. My normal playthrough is an Infiltrator but I would do something different this time (though probably not vanguard or soldier).

Dawn of War 2
Good fun, and I’m not good at it. I’m also not good at mixing up the squads because I like what I like but I’d give it a try.

These are all older games now however I’m familiar with them and they are fun. They're also not something that I can particularly spoil due to their age. I might add some more once I get home (and can look at my games) to see if there is anything else I could try.

As an addendum, I’m not necessarily any good at the above games J

If you want to do lets play then do it for recently released games.

There are hundreds upon hundreds of lets play videos on youtube for the games you mentioned.

And no one will care if you do videos on games you mentioned.

They will if he does it well and it's entertaining.
Besides, he could just be doing it for fun. Not everything has to make money.
It would be for fun ☺

I don't have the opportunity to get new games often so making do with what I have.

My suggestion is to not play it alone. It's boring. Especially if it's a game you are familiar with, because then you don't even have the "reaction factor". It's just you playing through games you've already played before talking about how much you enjoy it, and there's only so many ways in which you can phrase that sentiment.

The one exception to that being the extreme in which you are very skilled and knowledgeable on the game, but as you said that's not quite the case.

If I may offer an example of what I consider one of the high water marks of LPs, it would be the Chip and Ironicus LPs. One of them plays the game and records it. He then shows the footage to the other and they record the commentary together. That way you ensure that one of them knows the game well, the other doesn't and can act as an audience surrogate asking questions. It also keeps you from having to split your attention between the game and talking, which could make you play badly, and it has the advantage of editing to cut out any boring parts and retries. It's more work than other forms of LPs, which is why it's much less common, but I believe it makes for better videos.
Don't talk. Just play the game. Sure, curse at it, talk to yourself as if you were just playing the game, but, just play the game.

I'd suggest doing Dishonored in a "as close to a ghost play through as I can manage" way. There are probably less of those than other things, and even if they do exist, I'm sure the guy is talking the whole frikken time over the game, ruining the stealthy quietness and fun of it all.

Alternatively, do videos on less popular games.

Really old games that people might not know about are also good choices, especially early WRPGs. (Really, the only pre-Baldur's Gate WRPGs that seem to have a lot of let's plays are Might and Magic
3 through 5.)
Might and Magic 7. I really want to see someone beating the dragon from the tutorial island again:)

It's hard but not impossible. Involves doing it in real time combat and not in the usual turn based. You can find a few good strategies if you dig on youtube.

As from the games you selected by yourself: Dishonored on low chaos with the alternate mission solving (each mission has an alternative to the usual assassinate target if you meet certain requirements AND play stealthy). Dishonored Daud's DLC's are even better than the game itself. Also Deux Ex: Human Revolution. Try saving your lady pilot while doing the mission stealth/non-lethal. Again, a real challenge, but not an impossible one. Sure, easier if you go guns blazing:)
Just a couple of ideas...

Too many LPers do live streams and pander to their live audiences. I hate that. If you have something to say about a game while playing it, great, but there's no reason to spout off silliness and act like a goof just to fill empty space. Don't patronize the ADD crowd or you'll come across like just another schizoid Minecraft youtuber.

Do you actually have things to say about the game your playing? Memories of past plays? Was the end boss really hard? Did the game affect your time with your friends in school? Did some game actually help you get a job or a girlfriend? You know, life experiences and stories. That's entertaining. If not, just do it by the numbers and play the game and keep your teeth together. I really don't want to hear you munching on a sandwich and mumbling incoherently about spell upgrades while doing your LP.

And please edit your clips before uploading. Too many gamers just record and dump huge amounts of game play footage without sorting through it for the sake of their viewers. The world is fast paced and everyone's busy these days. There's simply too much out there, and most people aren't going to spend 2 hours watching you grind through one level of Deus Ex. Cut it, get to the good stuff, slap it together and upload. Don't just dump hours and hours of raw footage onto the interwebs and expect millions of people to be hanging on every action packed second of video. LP gaming culture seems overproduced sometimes, but when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it, things have become very lazy and slack.

And lastly, stay away from FPS games for LPs. They start off good and usually go downhill real fast. Playing an FPS competently and maintaining a competent level of discussion and intellectual thought is nearly impossible, and most LPers who do FPSs usually come across like mouth breathing retards by level 3.

why no vanguard? is good because all skills in class are useful compared to soldier and you got pistols and shotguns. pistol good for medium range and shotgun make knockdown much in close fight especially if you use mods for more weapon force. also shotgun have carnage power which can be used to kill enemy who is using cover like grenade except it's free
Evening

I've decided that I'll most likely do Dishonored as it's a shorter game and I has good points to break up a video. It'll also be faster to see if I'm any good at this :)

I won't likely ever do a livestream so no danger. I'm also not sure on going through it with someone else though I wouldn't be against the idea if this turns out good.

I'm not really keen on the Vanguard in general but mainly because there seem to be a lot of Let's Play's based on this class. I'd be keen to do a full renegade run but I am apparently not emotionally equipped to be a bastard. Not even in a game :)

This may take some time as I practice not sounding like a git and also practice video editing.

Thank you all for the advice and feedback. I appreciate it.

Ever played an Adept? If not for a Let's Play, do it for yourself, it's great fun - basically space magic, you'll be overpowered soon enough, but in a very entertaining way. Take Liara and Kaiden with you for all the ragdoll fun!

Tut-tut. Grow some renegade balls, good sir. It may not agree with your mindset, but it will be fun. The one thing that bothers me about ME1 Renegade is that it's basically being an asshat sometimes and being an alien-racist most of the time, but that's funny to watch, at least.

On a side note, I personally like LPs. Sometimes blind, to see others' reactions, sometimes for information. Incidentally, I've never found a Dishonored LP that appealed to me, so there's that. Stealth may be somewhat problematic in the sense that sitting in a corner for 10 minutes isn't exactly exciting to watch, but if you plan on editing and/or being entertaining, that shouldn't be an issue.

Oddly this is sort of my reason. Sort of. I was watching a blind playthrough of a self confessed stealth enthusiast who kept messing up and having to kill people. Constantly. It was jarring that an attempt at a non lethal run had high chaos. It included stealthy knock outs followed by throwing the bodies into the water.

Dishonored would be my pick.

Lots of people will be playing through Deus Ex Human Revolution as the new game is coming soon. So it might be hard to attract viewers.

Dishonored 2 is further up ahead, so starting with a playthrough early might catch more viewers.
Plus it's been a while since I've seen anyone play Dishonored.

To me 'stealth' is only fun to watch if the player takes it very seriously, like Centerstrain01.
Unless you do that I would opt for spectacle, gore and gun-ho action, the game certainly provides enough cool stuff for that, like the rat summoning and animal possessing.

Mass Effect could be entertaining if you do a Renegade path, I haven't seen that many of those.
