Lionel212008: The problem is much deeper than the DRM free policy. It shows that GoG does not stand by its business values and that is why customers are less likely to trust the platform if they continue.

Steam has never really claimed to be anything else.

To cite an analogy, it's like a girl meeting a jerk who is unapologetic about it vs a nice-guy who pretends to be nice just because he wants to get into her pants. She can see through this and it disgusts her.

So, yes, get real.
Exactly. It also wasn't too long ago that GOG had a policy of having all of its games available everywhere (no region blocking) at one price (no regional pricing). We all know how that went.

David9855: I see people are very passionate about this topic. GOG has banned games in certain places before such as Hotline Miami 2 in Australia. I certainly didn't appreciate that censorship as a grown adult and I still don't.
People aren't passionate about the topic, they're entertained by it. Don't confuse entertainment with passion. In a few weeks they'll forget all about it and nothing will have changed.

Democratic nations will sill trade with authoritarian nations. Authoritarian nations will still use their power to force corporations to bend to their will (If GoG didn't pull the game, the CCP would ban GoG from the Chinese market. That's how it works.) And we will STILL have every single corporation who does business with china further empowering China while they strip away our rights.

Lesser Blight Elemental: I'm not sure that GOG management realize how dependent they are on the goodwill of their core userbase. They're not Actiblizz, they don't have multiple exclusive games that millions are addicted to. They don't even have exclusivity on CDPR games. They're desperately trying to push Galaxy as a Steam competitor, and after this past week, I have no doubt they're willing to sell out even their core principle of selling DRM-free games. In fact, they already have. So I'm done. Whatever games I was going to buy on GOG, I'll get them on Steam or elsewhere instead, just out of spite. Clearly it doesn't make a difference, since I'm buying from opportunistic vultures without principles either way.
Why go to Steam then if they are no different. All spite is gonna do is make you feel good about yourself in the short term. You can't be spiteful forever.

I'm glad to see people here with principles. Hell I'll be doing the same thing and I'm thinking of making my avatar very anti CCP just out of spite as well. I might even rebuy games on Steam that I bought on here.

It comes down to stock brokers who represent the stockholdrs saying "hey, china's lucrative." It's like the whole thing of "gaming phones" i heard people invested in. The people i met who were hardcore proud to be investing in "gaming phones" obviously didn't play video games or understand the gaming market.

There is one huge, huge difference. Steam is privately owned, which means no investors to bow to. If that ever changes I'll be done with gaming altogether. I'm almost there as it is. No modding, games as a service, sjw bs infested into gaming.
Yeah I can see your post being censored courtesy of the author Iterant librarians; those social, nationally recognized ban hammers of GOG.
If you have such sentiments to express here better get better at using 'Hong Kong Cockney'.
Personally I don't see what you get out of deleting your GOG account; just stop buying their shit and their own 'poor faculties' will have them fail soon enough.
At the moment there is realistically only two players in the digital marketplace worth squat if you want decent full products (epic & steam) and the real problem is that generaly reviled douche's like Bobby Kotick are the big hitters determining how games are sold (with micro transactions, loot boxes and DLC) at the most minimum of expense churning out cardboard cutouts of their very own games time and again that `didn't even have much substance to begin with.
We need more Indie Devs, but indie devs have such little cash flow they are paranoid about piracy.
Lets face it things like 'tidal' might seem logically a sure thing in a developers head, but the reality is I don't think a lot of developers pool ideas from outside their own drawers. :P
If you don't have good contact with your target consumers and get real feedback on what they want you can't do things like...
# Have a product that someone actually is looking for
# Make a product to the standard the evolution of the genre has progressed to
# Make an informed decision as to if it is economically feasible (to sell at all with how close to a AAA game it need to be so it's not lumped into the 'it should be a free browser game' pile; or if the niche is even worth what people are paying),

You can't just make a game that you want to play because the idea for you is easy to implement; and big production games focus more on exposure and adverts than on being decent games because the industry is wrapped up on day 1 sales & dick move sales techniques to overreach their worth.
Fact is all the low hanging fruit has piled up in the corner to rot and what we have is just anouther industry suffering from the effects of late stage capitalism where you can't eke the exponential economic gains of the past because the well has all but metaphorically dried up either in that the return on investment is lowered, the expenses have risen or the duplicitious nature of trying to force bad deals on consumers has raised awareness & with it made the act of swindling a deprecating art.
The end result are unbudging producers who think 'it's my way or the high way' and try to ignore the reality that highway it is.
You screw over customers who pay big dollars for what you supply as an unfinished buggy mess; then your gonna reap exactly what in reality you've sown & big data won't save you in the long run trying to run things positive off the numbers if the model is broke.
You'll keep having to reinvent better and better mouse traps and the economical noose will just keep getting tighter until you can't even afford a real wage out of the work.
Welcome to end stage capitalism baby where the inhuman drive for profit throws everyone under the bus; but don't worry global warming will end up not so much as being it's herald, but the 'Big Bad'.we all thought not being able to produce value hard enough to get paid was gonna be.

We have enough SJW bs in pop-culture as it is. I remember mortal kombat in its glory and the scantily clad women. Then comes MK 11 where Sindel is the only silver lining. I miss games like heavy metal fakk 2. Wait.... is that one here?

Because the bigger they get, the greedier and less principled they're going to be. Being forced to scale back and refocus on their only real selling point - selling games without DRM - would be a good thing.

I didn't say we didn't in pop culture. It's infested everything and call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but don't you find it odd that masculinity has been demonized around the same time that all these companies started shilling out to China? meanwhile in China they push the idea of people strong and powerful. That doesn't sound like a coincidence to me.

I am a former pick up artist and being the alpha male is what I ascribe to. The way I see it, there are those who make the rules and the unfortunate who follow them. Southpark did get it right.

It's not a conspiracy. The femi nazis have run amok.

Anyone who knows alternatives for GOG? Preferably DRM free.

Done.
Maybe I'm an optimist, but I don't think it's a fear of being Banned in China. I think Cyberpunk didn't go as smoothly as it could have, and right now they need to be able to do business on the internet.

The ramifications of releasing the game could have Chinese Hackers up the wazoo for GOG...and cyber attacks, DDOS, and the rest is not something they really can deal with right now on top of everything else they are trying to handle.

I think GOG may release it next year sometime, AFTER things are more settled down and they don't have multiple bonfires burning at the same time.
