fortune_p_dawg: i think it's funny when people complain but don't...even have the ability to formulate the words to express what they really want.

BeatriceElysia: As AB2012 said, you can't milk money from nostalgia. If you bought all old MSDOS games you're interested, and other games are really hard to aquire, what exactly are you buying here? Nothing? Good, no store can't thrive if their customers have bought their whole collection years ago. It must have new customers, or loyal base willing to spent few dollars now or then. Imagine a store who isn't selling.

OldOldGamer: There are thousands of MSDOS games out there that I would be happy to buy (again), but are not here.
So more old, old games. OK, got it. lol

Right, but that's suspiciously close to GOOGLE.

Why didn't I see the GOG-GOOGLE connection sooner? o.O
I'm just here for the free popcorn.

OldOldGamer: Is GOG becoming a retro-gaming site?

Retro-games releases are growing.
Growing is not even correct: only retro-games are released.

This would fit if GOG decided to remain true to its root of "Good Old Games" but, instead, GOG is now only GOG and we are expected to see all kind of games.

Instead, only indie and retro are mainly released.
You are aware that the really 'old' games are a legal nightmare in terms of figuring out who the rights holders are, coming to some agreement between parties, and then finding the source files for such games to be patched and updated to work with modern standards?

No Clip did an entire doc on what GoG goes through.

As for indies yes there will always be more of them than older games released simply because of the work and restoration involved on the part of GoG to bring those older games back.

The only thing I can really fault GoG for (and maybe it's premature) is now that Epic has started throwing money at reputable indie devs to release their games on their storefront first I'd like to see GoG do something similar to step-up it's boutique-like feel - think the Criterion Collection for video games.

It would have been nice to see recent indies like Gris or Guacamelee 2 release here first in their own window before moving on to other sites like Steam.

I will say I wish we could get more semi-old (2005+) "AAA" games (especially single-player) whose legal status/rights are 100% known and whose publishers are already here. But in GOG's defense it's only been a few weeks since BioShock 1 and 2, and that's what I'm thinking of.
(Also rejected indie titles high up on the wishlist)

Leroux: My impression from several threads about users' preferences is that those are also the most niche and least popular genres, at least among GOG users. But of course that's just speculation (and a somewhat biased one, too, since they happen to be my least favorite genres as well XD ). And of course, even if it was true, it wouldbn't automatically mean that those games wouldn't sell here.

I wonder, did GOG ask about genre preferences in that poll? I don't remember. Probably not?
2D pixel trash for hipster cash?

Is anyone else seeing my posts. The page looks like it stuck on tfishell as the last poster.

It seems fixed now.

Not sure what you're referring to but if you ask what genres I was talking about, I meant sports and simulation games.

OldOldGamer: I joined GOG just for the old (I.e. MSDOS) games.
Then you can always buy those games and ignore the rest instead of complaining about them.

If your concern is that old games aren't being released anymore then:

1. That's not true
2. It probably relates to the fact that they've already licensed the sale of the low hanging fruit and the rest are hard to either get working on new systems for some reason or they can't get the rights to sell them easily.
"I will say I wish we could get more semi-old (2005+) "AAA" games (especially single-player) whose legal status/rights are 100% known and whose publishers are already here."

And today we get Brothers in Arms trilogy. :)
