vv221: I know we have a couple GOGmixes for games that run on Linux but are not officially supported on this platform by GOG. Don’t we have something similar for games running on Mac OS despite being sold as Windows-only games?
Games that can be run on OS X despite not having official support are most likely the same games that can be run on Linux despite not having official support.
Many games that can be downloaded for Linux and/or OS X on GOG are really Windows or DOS versions which GOG have bashed around a bit to make them work - with
Wine or
DOSBox most likely (
Crossover,
WineBottler, and
PlayOnMac/PlayOnLinux are all really Wine in fancier clothing, and
Boxer has a similar relationship to DOSBox), which
are the same ways we ourselves would use for games that are sold as Windows-only (of the listed applications, Crossover costs money but has a time-limited trial, the others are completely free). Thing is, GOG requires the publisher's agreement in order to "modify" and sell the game for OS X and/or Linux, but we as customers don't because we're doing it for our personal use.
