You might want to double check State of Mind's Genre, since it currently states "Strategy - Real-time - Sci-Fi|. Well, one out of three ain't bad.
Both of those look like fantastic games. I'm slightly more drawn to AER, because I enjoy abstract and ethereal adventures more than gritty social ones, but both appeal strongly to me. Wishlisted happily.

The striking minimalistic artstyle
??? Got quite surprised when I saw the screenshots, even if it's a bit low on polygons and with simple textures, it's still highly stylized with enough details. The "minimalist" adjective would have fit "AER" more IMHO...
Good news :)
Wishlisted.
I was especially looking forward to AER - but seeing the reqs now ... SIGH...
I hope they will be lowered a lot.

The level of detail in both AER and State of Mind are similar, and both are abstracted, minimalist art styles, especially compared to industry standards.

Not that this is in any way bad. State of Mind reminds me of Fade to Black.

I'll get both provided the gameplay isn't THAT minimalist.

The beloved publisher/developer that still won't give us the original German version of some of their games (Memoria, Chains of Satinav).

As far as I know, the German voices on these games have been distributed (and held back) subject to licensing agreements with Daedalic's Dark Eye game publisher Koch Media.

Maybe. But they did the same with some of their self-published games (we got the German versions several months later). And on every other digital store front the German version is available.

Correct, Daedalic dabbled in Koch Media marketing strategies, and that_was_bad. It seems they were heading in a different direction recently though (i.e. not make a German version at all, it's too expensive :) ).

Koch's been nodding to electronic discounters by cutting German voices out of games sold online – thus making retail more attractive to German customers. While abject in some respects, this kind of exclusivity has brought some German retail distributors to supply/produce/finance voiceover work for several games themselves.

But Koch is stuck neck deep in Valve's ass, hence the exceptions. Hence locking Broken Sword 5's backer archive editions into Steam, and all that crap. They must have signed quite the epic contract with ol' Gabe.

Daedalic deserves a critical eye particularly since having been bought by struggling publishing house Bastei Lübbe, but in the case of the missing German voices, Koch Media deserves the critical eye almost entirely.

Valuable information, this. More than the customer service of "beloved" Daedalic could help me with. Thanks!

I'm a bit confused about that, though. Aren't pretty much all of Koch's boxed retail copies tied to Steam? That policy of removing German versions must date back quite a few years.

Also, regardless of how the retail version is affected, the two Daedalic titles that are missing the German version on gog do have a German version on Steam.

On a side note, it's sad to see that Koch are such dipshits when it comes to games distribution. They're one of the few halfway competent DVD companies in Germany (which isn't saying much, really, but they did have some decent releases in the past and they're apparently about to fight the ban of Romero's Dawn Of The Dead).
That "State of Mind" looks interesting! Is it like a 3D Myst?

fronzelneekburm: That policy of removing German versions must date back quite a few years.
The formative years were 2010 to 2012, I believe. And as Daedalic was tied to Koch, Daedalic was tied to Steam.

(Carsten Fichtelmann at adventure-treff.de, February 2012)

To translate/reiterate: Koch was the most massive German games publisher, but still couldn't get their games on Steam five years ago! They had to beg for it back then and I'm sure they signed whatever Newell eventually threw at them.

Koch did their very best to keep retail alive and the Media-Saturn Group happy, but eventually it became clear that their lord and master Valve forced a premature ending on PC retail, and then retail, for Koch, meant console. Koch Media were giants back when retail was king. But they just haven't found a way into this new age besides leeching off Valve. Which is immensely sad, I agree.

To cushion the whole thing here a bit, ahem, yes, I still love Daedalic. There are still awesome people working there, like Poki and Simone, and I at least hope they'll finally get to release The Devil's Men (which rather looks like vaporware at the time).

Awesome to see Linux listed for OS support. Game looks good as well. I can see myself buying it.
