But he's rich inside. Or will be soon.

Hollow Knight, a wonderfully sordid action/platformer, hand-painted in charming 2D, is coming soon, DRM-free on GOG.com!

The world below is full of ancient cities, hidden treasures, and perilous passageways. Only a Hollow Knight can hope to dodge, dash and slash through the adorably creepy creatures dwelling there, while conquering the haunting remains of this forgotten kingdom.

Oh man, from that trailer this game looks pretty cool!

"kickstarter"
"Have your name and a short message of your choice etched on a stone plaque"
"Appear in-game as a bug spirit in the Glade of Hope!"
"Appear in-game as an epic warrior-spirit!"
"Get In the Game! Create a character in the game."
"Design a Boss!"
"Design a Dungeon and Boss!"
"Design a Village!"

...oh.

Well done guys. You have lost my respect and Hearthlands is officially last game I've bought from you until you create clear rules about publishing games here because currently this is just odd, dumb and leave bad taste in mouth.

Games with less supporters on Kickstarter that got green light from GoG:

YES!

I have this game on the radar for quite some time. Great to see that it will be released here. Thanks!

I'm struggling to see your point...
They accepted a game that received more backing from more people and rejected one that didn't?
If it had been the other way around I might see your argument, but to me it just looks like business sense, Hollow Knight clearly has more interest and sales potential from the figures you've just given (and looks pretty nice, though not really my genre)

reative00 - Give it a rest. A game you want isn't on GOG. We get it. It's available DRM Free from https://pixeltrickery.itch.io/a-house-of-many-doors

There's actually quite a few games that I'd like to see on GoG. That's not my point. Arbitrary rejection of games based on unknown standards is a problem and practice of rather anti-customer companies. I don't want GoG to become one so I'm not going to support this practice. EDIT: Yes, I know it's available DRM-free. So, you're also telling me that I shouldn't support GoG. Thanks buddy, happy we agree.

Looking at the trailer, this looks polished and well made, with interesting gameplay, and a consistent aesthetic.

Looking at the trailer, this looks like crap made by amateurs, with awful disjointed gameplay, and no consistent aesthetic.

I guess the rule in this case is "If it seems like a good game, release it. If it seems like a bad game, don't."

In some cases, the reasons for GOG accepting or rejecting certain games seem incomprehensible. This does not seem to be one of those cases though.

Would you mind explaining exactly why you clearly think that A House of Many Doors deserves to be released here, while Hollow Knight does not? All you have said is "GOG released one game and rejected another. Now I'll never buy anyting here again", which quite frankly doesn't make sense.
GOG can run their store - curating the catalog that they sell - as they wish. Ultimately as a business their decisions will be based on what they think will sell. And that's fine. I'd much rather the way it is now than any 2 bit "developer" being able to push any old crap without any curation as it is on Steam. And as you're aware, there are alternatives if you happen to disagree. And that's fine. Competition is good.

"A House of Many Doors" was game partially funded by Failbetter Games - the company behind quite successful Sunless Sea (available here), it's DLC Zubmariner (available here) and upcoming Sunless Skies (going to be available here). Their funding program is https://www.failbettergames.com/fundbetter/ quite strict. So I do believe that if BOTH Kickstarter users AND company with some experience in making QUALITY games agreed this is something worth funding I'm kinda pissed that for GoG it's not good enough.

I got it, GoG has to make cash. Until some time they were making it being a friendly company. If they're going to turn into "we only accept games that will bring us AT LEAST that and that much of money" I'm not going to support their DRM-free process anymore because it's not so far from "we've started using DRM for certain games that otherwise wouldn't agree to publish here, but it's gonna be only a few titles per year" and finally into "DRM-free option is now optional for publishers".

"GOG can run their store - curating the catalog that they sell - as they wish."
Oh damn, my favorite argument. YES, they can do what they like. And I, as customer with over 200 games here, can tell company that I'm not going to support said practice and inform them about my decision. That's also free market for you.

Looks very, very charming! And I love the use of limited hues at any given moment. It gives the game a certain magical feel.

I don’t like what @Bonsewswesa has reported, though.

(Also, I love the look of the GOG description!)

reative00: ~wah wah~
GOG uses its own curating system, and it doesn’t have to make it public—it doesn’t even have to many any sense, as long as it keeps them afloat!

Also, I’m wondering why you used “officially.” Does that mean that all that was an empty “threat” and you’ll still keep buying games from them in secret, just in order to create a faux sense of importance?

Oh, so releasing other games is not being friendly? (Wondering who’s the unfriendly one here, not wanting games that appeal to other people released.) This release really offends you that much, huh? Wow.
Please, let's not turn this release thread into a yet another 'which games should/shouldn't GOG release' debate. :\

Back on topic, this game looks awesome! I'm totally getting it... when they make good on their promise of a Linux version. As it stands, they 'plan' on making one.

seppelfred: YES!

I mean no offense, but it seems odd thanking the seller, but not the developers. Sort of like thanking a library for having X book available but not the author of said book.
Perhaps it's just me, but I find this a strange behavior.
Again, no offense meant.

On topic: looks to be a solid platform game, and I love that style of graphics.
It would be even better if it had more languages available, but considering it's an indie team that's understandable.
Maybe the fans will create translations for the rest of the world.
I'll wait for the reviews, but it looks great.
It looks gorgeous; kudos to Team Cherry's designer!

I truly hope GOG's curation system isn't reduced to checking a quick trailer and unashamedly brutally bashing a game just for it. Because that would really be crap and amateur.

On the other hand, you can actually read reviews from people that played the game.
A House Of Many Doors RPS Review

(Disclaimer: I'm a backer of AHOMD, as it looked interesting. I also like Hollow Knight and will probably buy it -although it depends on the price. And I'm a firm supporter of having as many games on GOG as possible, so yes, I'd liked both to be here).
