dnovraD: I really don't ever see how this game is going to live up to expectations, hype, or pay out in terms of development time vs content. Four years of media churn is not going to set this up for a positive and glowing reception.
To the public's knowledge, Team Cherry are a grand total of three devs (Ari Gibson, William Pellen, and Jack Vine) and the game sold 3 million by December 2020. It being half a decade since and being universally praised probably gave it a very good shelf life on digital stores, but even if it somehow never sold past 3 million copies, revenue split evenly between the three alone is enough to let those guys live the rest of their lives without raising a finger for work. More importantly, it doesn't take much money to sustain a studio such small size, even accounting for any potential outsourcing contract work it might've had.
All the media hype around the game has basically been free advertising for the game as well. It's not a NMS/2077 situation where the marketing is somehow hyping the game up to being the greatest thing since sliced bread. Most people just want more Hollow Knight/metroidvanias which is what it will be.
