i am trying to install my bestsellers cd version of colin mcrae rally 04 on windows 7 32 bit

so far i dont have much luck

set up crashes during cd 2 witht the following error

error number : 0x80040707
description: DLL function call crashed: ISRT_WaitOnDialog

setup wil now terminate

what exactly is this ?
and what can i do about it ? ( other then installing XP )

i tried the usual admin mode compatability mode
safe mode

windows 7 is a brand new 5 day old installation

any work around so i can install and play this game ?

Prime suspects:

Installation is being interrupted by another process. Close everything while installing, but especially antivirus.

Temporary folder needs emptying. Reboot and immediately empty your temp folder.

Damaged user profile. Create another temporary profile and see if you have the same issue there.

another trip to safe mode then and killing everything thats not needed

...and the damn game decided to install under windows 2000 compatability of all things

I really wish GOG could get those back. I found out those were removed from GOG a couple years before I'd joined. We need more racing games!

the game is working in windows 2000 mode of all things
and it reconigses my 360 controller out of the box

which is impressive for an 11 year old game
