The issue seems to be being triggered by me adding a custom executable (specifically, DXWND) to Geneforge. Since doing so, every time I click onto Geneforge, an error appears saying 'Cloud sync failed', and after exiting the game the Synicing message appears over the Play button but stays at 0% until it gives up.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, and there's no indication that it's trying to sync until I add DXWND. I don't know what it's trying to sync or why, but anyone have any idea how I can make it stop? Cloud saves are disabled in Settings/Game features, so it shouldn't be syncing at all.

I see nobody ever replied to your thread.

I'm having the same problem with Tomb Raider 2 after trying to add a custom exe.
How can I fix cloud sync? I need it to track my play time.

EDIT: apparently play time tracking works again (it wasn't working for most of yesterday), but the cloud sync error persists.

Galaxy is embedded in even offline installers now. If you have galaxy in the background it picks up on you running a game, and for the benefits of such nonsense as track playtime, tries to other things like sync cloud saves. Don’t want that, then uninstall galaxy, use the offline installer, and get a stop watch if it is really necessary to know how much of your life you waste playing games :o)

What, yours? Check your game, it will most likely contain a galaxy.dll amongst other things, which will link in galaxy if you have it installed and running. Hence, if you don’t want that, uninstall galaxy.

This exact same problem occurs with Cyberpunk and any other cloud sync capable game. GOG's Galaxy cloud storage solution is just broken, and despite disabling it, it can not be turned off in all cases. Galaxy /sometiems for unknown reasons/ just cocmpletely ignores the user configured setting that tells it to disable cloud saves.

There are tonnes of reports of it here in the forums for like 6 months plus now so it suggests that it isn't something that is a high priority for them. I was going to contact support about it a while back but figured it'd take them 2 months to even return the contact due to COVID and other factors so why bother.

What's funny is if this was a Steam bug even in Steam beta, there is a solid 99% chance that "check for updates" would update the client and the bug would be fixed because Valve despite their own flaws has quality control. If that sounds harsh, well... I'm kinda pissed about this being broken for 6+ months with no sign of it ever being fixed, while the company makes a bazillion dollars from Cyberpunk 2077 which is also broken.

And for the record I do actually like and prefer to use Galaxy, and it is a great client overall for my purposes, but it isn't without flaw and the flaws seem to never get fixed. Very frustrating.
ofc it fails if you disable it
