eiii: I initially came to this thread to tell GOG that with their new least-effort strategy to announce promos they rather could skip the announcement threads at all. But this single post alone makes the whole thread worth it!
Thank you for the nice words. Yes, I do agree that we still need such newsposts because we all know that the game specific forums are not actually visible ... I often forget that they even do exist ... and we need to have a place to mention pro and cons of a certain release - especially if GOG advertizes it. Unfortunately GOG omitted several newspost over tha last few months - especially (you can count them if you should not believe me) when it comes to Asian titles. This imo is pretty unfair to these publishers but GOG defended their stance with the fact that they don't have the resources and not every game will get a newspost anyway ... shortly after they made a newspost for a DLC - of course not Asian origin ;)
eiii: Thank you very much for this info, also for the info that it was GOG's decision to reject the uncensored version, and for your game review! I've voted for it, but I don't know if my vote will be counted as GOG lately often thanks me for my vote (and thus prevents me from re-trying to vote again later), but does not actually count the vote.
Oh, I was furious when I read that GOG only offers the censored version without a free uncensor patch ... and I thought it was the publishers fault - as often it is the case - as well. However in this case the publisher stated (I guess you can still read this in the release thread) that they offered GOG the uncensored version but GOG rejected it just like Steam did. Regarding your not counting votes ... it really would be sad if this would in fact be intended. This being GOG though I guess it's just one of their many bugs. In any case I thank you for your vote and I thank everybody who is voting with their wallet. GOG staff actually once said that their numbers stated that censored games sell better than uncensored ... yeah - sure. As if anybody who is interested in adult games or movies or books would prefer to have them censored.
eiii: I can live with censored games which provide a
free uncensor patch to download on GOG (as a DLC), but not providing at least that is unacceptable and won't get my support, as a general stance.
I am with you on this one. If GOG really thinks that it would be problematic to sell a game at least they should offer an uncensor patch for it as they do for many games already (however there are at least two Kagura games for which they rejected the uncensor patch - even though it is available for free on the Kagura website. Tbh I just forgot their names but they do exist). In the nace of Nie No Hakoniwa the uncensor patch is not free but if you should buy the game where I bought it - you don't need it and the game is uncensored even cheaper as it is on GOG in the censored version. Regarding the explicit gore scenes (which do in fact exist) there's an option inside of the game to turn them off (or rather minimize them) if you so desire. Before I purchased the game I played the demo about 10 hours and really enjoyed it. The game is a slow burn so nothing extreme happens in this 10 hours ... but there's quite a lot of interesting character introduction and the story is told anti chronological which makes it a real mystery as well. As I said it's a quality game in my opinion - but of course it is not for everyone.
eiii: This game might not be for me if the violence is overboarding, but I want to make that decision on my own. I do not need a store to patronize me and decide what is good for me and what not!
This is the core point of it all. GOG is a store with adult customers and as an adult (I personally passed the 18 a loooong time ago) it should be up to me if I think something is too extreme or not. After all it is just a game and in the case of a VN we are even talking about some pics, animations and text ... this is a kinetic VN so you don't even have any form of interactivity at all.
eiii: PS: The games
bundle page does not even contain the warning about the censored version. You might want to copy over your review to warn people there too.
Will do (if GOG allows it and does not consider thjis to be a double review) - thanks for the information.
