I was going to suggest Banished, but you can easily paint yourself in a corner and lose/die in it.

Matruchus: Cities Skylines but that one is only on Steam.
Yeah... One of these days we'll be treated equally by that schizoid publisher that's here, but not here. I'd schedule a few days off after that insta-buy when they ever release it here.

It occured to me that nobody ever went ahead and pulled an OpenTTD on Sim City 2000.

A shame, really. That would have been so amazing.

Kardwill: Sometimes, I don't use the social security edict. That way, the inactive population goes to live in the slums and don't squat in the housings meant for my workers. Yeah, I'm a father to my people, I know

But even when I have social security (i.e. as soon as I have a stable revenue in most of my games), zero rent housing is still useful for the unemployed migrants, when I don't have enough unqualified jobs for them right now. That way, they won't settle in "Presidente Park"

And yeah, on my islands, nuclear engineers apparently love sleeping in low quality shacks and communal barracks rather than in the luxury beach houses I just built for them. I guess they spend all their salary on videogames and rum. ^^
Even the immigrant shall benefit from social security, but as you mentioned, but seems not to work for all of them.

Nuclear engineers: LOL. At least that would be a good excuse ;) But a bloody banker? how low can they settle? (plus all of them were working for me) (evilgrin)

Or another good, don't know how they managed it, a couple both farmers were living in a top notch condominium. No, they were not bankers before ;)

And yes Tropico is far more casual as Banished. Banished is sometimes too close to reality.
Didn't know the unemployed got social security too.

2 farmers pooling their resources earn as much money as a factory technician. That may be sufficient to get in a good condo? (They will spend 1/3 of their combined income on their home, so even with the starting 5$ income, they might be able to pay a 3 or 4$ rent). Maybe they worked in a high priority farm and had better pay than the average? Especially if you did raise the minimum wages but not the living expenses on your island

The "couple combine their income" tends to screw up my carefully laid housing plans too, with farmers and miners from the outback hogging my luxury downtown apartments, leaving the decrepit farmhouse in the middle of nowhere to the single downtown banker ^^

No, I checked, they complete income would have not been enough to pay for it. Not even talking about just 1/3 of the income ;)

I think the calculation is sometimes a wee bit off ;) Same as you mentioned with the distance to work. Once I had it that a construction worker was living on the other edge of the city and it wasn't just short term, I observed this person for a bit, only after manually kicking him out, she finally moved.....
