Vendor-Lazarus: In Bloodstained though, the controls are rather unresponsive and delayed. Especially jumping.
The graphics also make it hard to see what is foreground and background sometimes too.
Bloodstained is a great game. Certainly worth playing. Not the best, but up there and worth the money spent. Just don't spend too much time "grinding" to power up your souls, otherwise you'll get too powerful for a reasonable challenge.

The controls are quite responsive.
The graphics note is accurate though.

On Hollow Knight, I would also say it's a great game. It's too tough though. Even a couple of the bosses in the main game outside of side content are really effin hard. But certainly once you want to do any of the side content, just give up and don't bother. It's one of the best games in the genre, probably the best, in terms of non-linear design.

I really wish Shadow Complex would be released for PC. :(

dtgreene: Another Metroidvania game I would recommend, if you want one that's very much like the Igavanias, is Timespinner. It may not be that long or that impressive, but I did find it quite fun when I played it.
Will check it out, thanks for the recommendation!

Vendor-Lazarus: ...Chasm is okay if you like the Igavania style...
Randomized areas and gameplay do not appeal to me in these games :/ For example, I played Dead Cells for a few hours but grew tired of it very quickly, so I quit.

I admire well-designed predetermined maps in metroidvanias, even if it means turning castles upside down :)

I didn't like Dead Cells either.
In Chasm however, it isn't noticeable that the maps are randomized, and they are only randomized for each playthrough.
Once you start a game, that's it. Fixed map through a seed.
I actually played Chasm before Aria's Sorrow, and was blown away by the similarity.
It really is an homage to the old Castlevania series.

Really? Haven't heard of such similarity before. How does it play in terms of leveling up and items / weapons? Is it as heavy as SOTN was (aka tons of weapons and inventory items) or is it more manageable?
It needs a PC release. I was never able to beat it, years ago and just got lost.

Much more manageable. The drop rate is rather low though. Or it used to be maybe. 2 updates have come since I last played. I did the same as in Aria's Sorrow. Go in to room, kill, no drop, exit, repeat. So I'm sure you're used to it.

Hmm, that's interesting, I always thought Chasm was a rogue-lite, i.e. start, reach somewhere, unlock stuff, die, start again with different layout. Might give it a chance now that you metnioned it.

Also, if you haven't already, play Axiom Verge. It's really good (it's basically Super Metroid with some elements from Castlevania). I don't know if we'll ever see it here, though, so I got it on the PS4.

Hollow Knight is on my backlog for a few years now, I've heard people compare it to Dark Souls (!?) so I never found the courage to start it :)

I think Shadow Complex does exist for PC, I just don't see it coming here unfortunately...

If you play it smart, Hollow Knight is actually rather lax. In Hollow Knight you gain magic power by hitting enemies and your first magic is healing. So if you find a hard area / boss, try to play more defensively. Prioritize evasion rather than hitting enemies, try to figure out the right time to do healing, know when to get close or run away far. I found some tough bosses suddenly become manageable when you focus on keeping yourself alive rather than focusing on killing him.

Art style is unique and pretty good. And control is very responsive. Combat is a big part of the game. One of weirdest quirk in this game is you're pushed back each time your attack hit something, and it makes combat while platforming a bit tricky. There's an charm / upgrade to remove this behavior but it was there for a reason. Without it you'll get hit more often because you'll be standing too close to enemy after attacking.

Last tip, money is important in hollow knight especially at beginning. There are so many things to buy. So keep that in mind while playing

Good to know all this, thank you. It seems Hollow Knight requires more time investment compared to other games. Does it have a huge inventory, a la Symphony Of The Night? These things usually put me off because I get tired at some point :)

timppu: Nowadays I mainly know the game from all the memes about the bad English and over-voiceacting in the game.
Bad english and overacting is part of the charm! ;)

kusumahendra: If you haven't, definitely give hollow knight a go. That one is damn good metroidvania.
It's been in my wishlist since its release, yet i always found an excuse not to buy it. I think i'll wait until Silksong arrives here (yep, another excuse).

Panaias: Exactly as you said, I'm not into anime style as well, but this game's art is top-notch! I liked it so much that I definitely want to find a high-resoution image of the artwork and print a poster.
Here you go, print away!

Panaias: Totally unrelated, I also forgot to mention earlier that I found the game very difficult at the beginning. It requires some patience until you get strong enough to progress comfortably. From that point on, the game just... flows. It kind of had a "reverse" difficulty progression, if you get what I mean ;)
I know exactly what you mean by that, though i didn't find the game to be too difficult in general. But i agree that, as soon as you get better stuff & skills, the game does get easier.

Wow, thanks! Would be nice if the logo was also there, but still this is great.

That's quite easy to do; find the logo you like most, post the link here and i'll do it for you. Also, tell me where you prefer it to be placed. ;)

No, I wouldn't want to bother you with that. I might attempt to do that later with paint.net :P But thanks a lot!

(By the way, are you a designer / graphics artist or something related?)

Alright, give it a shot then! I'm not a designer, though i make use of graphic editors (mostly GIMP on Linux) on a frequent basis as part of my profession.

Panaias: ... finally had the chance to play Symphony Of The Night to the end.
Did you get to 100%, or did you go beyond?

That game has a lot of secrets.
