Okay, my bad. After tinkering, playing, experimenting, and trying stuff I've never tried before, I have to admit the changes to My Account aren't deal breakers.

I still don't like that not all of my games are on one page (which is especially irritating when I click on a game on page 4, click on it's store page to read some reviews, and then hit backspace have it return to page ONE again). I still don't like that the GOG downloader will stop working at some point and I liked how it automatically put all of my GOG downloads in one place. And I still don't like the changes regarding chat and finding old PM's and finding old gift codes.

That's actually a lot not to like, but they're all..... I dunno, not hugely important, like say your decision to scrap one world pricing was IMO. I firmly believe in consumers voting with their wallets and my "vote" would be to return the old MY ACCOUNT page the way it was, because, you know the old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and it wasn't broke. But I also can't in good faith say these things are so large as to make, oh, say fucking STEAM look like a gaming consumers best friend all of sudden. They're not. You've basically kept your word (Galaxy is OPTIONAL, no client is required, and we still can technically just download our installers like we used too (it's just more of a PITA now).

So, I'm going to continue to vote with my wallet by continuing to add to my over 700 games here because IMO you are still the best gaming retailer, P.E.R.I.O.D.

Now, I get that you don't care about one consumer's opinion (especially mine), and that's not why I wrote this post. I wrote this post with the hope that maybe one or two others out there that reacted as negatively as I did at first will read this, take a few days and play around with the new account page, and also consider giving GOG the benefit of the doubt. If I don't change a single mind, then so be it, it was my time wasted.

I do want to end though by saying that for over 6 years I've supported this place, and by support I mean not only by purchasing by spreading the word in every forum I've ever posted at. I could link a post I made just two weeks that would probably make your marketing department proud on another site (Civ Fanatics Forums) which is ironic considering the timing and how unhappy I was a few days ago. But there are concerns creeping in all the time now.

Last year's end of one world pricing was the big one, but it wasn't all. There have been lots of changes here recently, and IMO most of them have been in the WRONG direction, not the right one. Whatever you have planned for future changes, please know this. You got to where you are today not by being another Steam. You got to where you are being an ALTERNATIVE to Steam. If that's no longer the niche you want to carve out for yourself, then you should know that you will lose those of us who came because that was your niche.

Please don't lose your soul. DRM free, fair world pricing, OPTIONAL client, and things like your 30 day money back guarantee are all the things that make you NOT Steam. Don't lose that, but also please don't just feel that any and all changes that don't violate those are somehow "good" and should be accepted by all. These changes to MY ACCOUNT were not good in many folks' opinions (including mine) and they/we have every right to complain about them, including voting with our wallets if some choose that these changes are that important. So please just do a better job of thinking about your soul and what got you to where you are today before making other big changes.

And then carry on. Good luck.
It takes a lot of guts to publically stand up and say "I was wrong". Good on yer mate, you get a +1 from me :-)

As for the rest of it, I agree that GOG has been changing for the worse in some ways lately. On the other hand, I also think it has been changing for the better in other ways. Us old timers have a habit of perceiving any kind of change as bad at first, which can probably be a pain in the ass for GOG sometimes. All in all though, I think it's important to do as you have done, and ask yourself the question "But isn't it still better than anywhere else?" As long as the answer to that question is "Yes", talking of boycotting is futile, since you really have nowhere better to go.

I think this is basically the heart of the issue. Whether you like Galaxy or not, whether you like the new account system or not GoG is still the best place to buy games.
And as far as I can tell (from there recent slew of releases both new and old) they are very much on the up. If having Galaxy means we get more old games that I loved in the past or never got to try and more new games I've wanted to play then I'm happy.

I never used the account section much other than downloading games, and while some parts of the new system are annoying, so were some parts of the old one (like every time I clicked a game it thought I wanted to drag it and told me I needed to switch ro manual sorting, which always annoyed the hell out of me)
I hate Steam's client because it's intrusive and annoying, but I quite like being able to start up Galaxy to browse my collection, install anything I want and then just play them from the desktop shortcuts as usual.

Why would it get archived? Only threads that didn't get new posts in 2015 get scrapped to the so called archive.

I think it was a joke...
Yep, change is never easy. Some things are better others not and we tend to focus to heavily on the negatives. I was feeling a bit down with this big push towards galaxy, and all the social junk associated with it, however the relase of 5 big games and the Start Trek/Wars releases have cheered me up :o) Just hope thats not a plaster for a final push, but hey.

Look, I don't understand any of this technical stuff. All I want is my favourite threads to remain open after the archiving start.
Amen.
Preach it, brother.
I haven't liked many of the latest changes, either, but I also think this is still the best store around. Therefore, what I've done is hold back on the gifting. I used to buy extra copies of games to gift around, but I guessed GOG doesn't need my support anymore so I no longer do it.
Fair World Pricing?

They're still charging US prices for poorer regions like SEA and SA, for example.
