First I couldn't redeem a code because the captcha isn't working. Then, because trying to contact support also requires the same captcha (which isn't working there either), I can't contact them to say I'm having problems.

I've seen some older discussions where people mention ad blockers being a cause.

I have GOG whitelisted on all my security/ad blocker extentions (I'm on Chrome). No-Script Suite Light I have GOG whitelisted. uBlock Origin I have turned off for GOG (same as whitelisting). ScriptSafe is the only other security extension I have installed, and GOG is whitelisted there too.

Even temporarily disabling ScriptSafe entirely, and disabling No-Script Suite Lite too (uBlock origin doesn't have an easy turn-off option), the captchas on GOG won't work.

I can't recall having captcha problems on any sites. I think it might just be GOG where I'm having trouble.

All I get for captcha is this:

When I try to redeem a code for example, because the captcha isn't working, I always get the error "Oops, something went wrong. Please this page and try again." Refreshing doesn't fix the problem at all.

Not being able to redeem a code or even contact support is a huge problem.

I need some serious help here.

Are you sure the problem is the captcha? In case of redeeming codes, the actual captcha (which is not what you srceenshotted) only appears after you click continue. If you get an "oops" at that point, it probably means the code you're trying to redeem is invalid.

What happens on the support page?

email support@gog.com directly (though try to follow the format of the email form if you can). these captchas are a long running problem, but at least this is one way around it.

alternatively you could message a blue (text) user on here (such as ashlee: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/paypal_preapproval_upon_purchase/post4).

the (long running) problem is the captcha never showing - or you having to do about 15 of them. the "oops" happens whether a code is valid or not in many cases simply because the captcha wont load for any reason.

reCAPTCHA is run by Google. You have to whitelist Google services for the captcha to work properly.

Not as much of a problem as you might think, actually. Even if you get through, they likely won't help you with any complicated problems (and CAPTCHAs are definitely complicated problems), so the inability to reach support may just be saving you time arguing with a brick wall.

Also, after whitelisting, it still may not work for no good reason and with no useful error message. There are many threads, going back years, of the CAPTCHAs causing problems for people. I always advise people to avoid buying GOG gift codes, since you can't redeem them without solving a CAPTCHA, support refuses to deal with CAPTCHA problems, and you can't know in advance whether you'll be able to get it to work.

this is very true. i had an elongated complaint with support regarding captchas last year, nothing has been done.
Okay, turns out it was my fault after all and I'm probably dumb but this was also my first time ever trying to redeem a code on GOG. I had the code just a little bit wrong. Even after double checking I hadn't realized that. After reading what people said about how captchas and that error message work on that page, I double checked the code again and saw where it was wrong. Now it worked.

What I still don't understand is why GOG doesn't just say "invalid code" or something else plain and clear. "Something went wrong" isn't helpful at all, and if it looks like the captcha is not working on the same page that is extremely confusing. I wouldn't have had to bug people on the forum if GOG just gave an error message which said what actually went wrong.

I don't understand why that captcha box was even there anyway. It never made me do a captcha when I got the code right so all that box being there did is cause confusion.

Seeing that captcha box exactly the same on the support page, after what happened on the redeem page, convinced me that the support page wouldn't work either. I hadn't even tried to send a report because of that. That's how confusing it was having that captcha box there but with no captcha. To someone who doesn't know better it just looks broken.

Thanks everyone for the tips. At least I'll know more about how that works in the future.

I'm also disappointed to hear that there have been some captcha problems going back a long time, and GOG support has a history of not doing anything to help with captcha issues. That sounds like what I'd expect from Steam support. Not from GOG.

Ain't that the truth?
It wasn't like that before though.
