If you remember (not like you should) this thread (current issue not related to that one), you may already be familiar with my laptop and its two different graphic cards, i.e.:

Laptop: MSI G60 2PC Apache.

Graphic cards: Integrated Intel HD 4600, dedicated nVidia GTX 850M.

Drivers version: 10.18.14.4080 for the Intel, 347.88 for the nVidia. The latest in both cases. The nVidia driver was last updated after the issue started, on a clean install (as the nVidia installer calls it).

So the issue of the week is: I was seeing some (in my opinion) low frame rate on Civilization V (sure, I was running it on 1920x1080 with maxed out details, except for anti aliasing, but the game's five years old and its requirements are way below my specs, so I expected to at least be able to keep a stable 30 fps). I found these benchmark modes referenced [url=
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=382702]here[/url], so I tried to run them to see some concrete results. I noticed that the benchmarks seemed to be running on the integrated graphics rather than the dedicated ones (a led glows blue or orange depending on which one is being used). The third benchmark just blacked out my screen for a while until I just had to Ctrl+Alt+Del back into the desktop, where I saw that the Civ V app was showing an error window stating "Render error", after which I just closed the app.

After that, dedicated graphics didn't seem to "kick in" whenever needed, as they normally did (and should). On the nVidia control panel you can set it to use either graphics cards or decide automatically, both for general functioning and for specific applications. But even when running an app set to run on dedicated graphics, the led stays blue and the performance clearly suggests it's running on integrated graphics. I've managed to force dedicated graphics by setting it to use that on the general tab instead of switching automatically, but it would be a pain to have to manually switch it there whenever I want to run a game (and it's definitely not how it should work anyway).

So, any ideas about what messed up and how to fix it will be greatly appreciated.

none, but maybe this bump will alert someone who does know.
