The first specific point I can remember is Monkey Island 2: in Scabb Island you access a location through a window. I didn't notice that you could click the window and I was stuck for ages after I did everything that can be done without entering that room. Eventually my brother discovered the window and I was so happy that I could continue playing.

In the remastered Special Edition there is a hotspot indicator that would have helped my younger self immensely.
Some games on the C64:
- Swiss Family Robinson: they all died at the arrival of the rainy season.
- The Dallas Quest: never made any progress whatsoever.
- Ghouls 'n' Ghosts: I managed to reach the 4th level just once.
- Robocop: the 5th level, of course...
- Strangeloop

and many more...

babark: IIRC, level skip reduced your time, and didn't work for the levels after the first few.
Ah could be. I remember using another cheat to increase the time limit so probably I used both together

I was stuck what seemed like an eternity at a door where you have to guess the password from a bouncer's "hints". Facepalmed when I read what the "solution" was. The spitting competition also had me floored for a while

The very end of Ultima IV.
i think manic mansion, oh wait no, leisure suit larry .... but baldurs gate is fine too as an example
It's Tetris for me; i've yet to finish it. :P
On the Commodore 64 if a game had an ending it was way too easy to get stuck and never see that ending, lol. I don't know which was the first time I got stuck on a game, but it happened all the time... still does to some extent. :P

Try Tetris the Grand Master; it actually has an end.

Good to see some Tetris players here, Tetris 99 has been crack for me lately.

I don't really play myself, but I have watched people play it. In any case, I note that the TGM series is very difficult; there's an end, but it's not that easy to reach. TGM3 has one mode, Shirase, that even the best players, those who've dedicated many years of practice to the game, can't consistently beat, and I believe this has yet to be beaten in a speedrun marathon (despite having appeared multiple times in GDQ events).

My most recent Tetris experience was with the version contained in the Sega Genesis Mini, which is based off Sega's arcade Tetris (not the unreleased Sega Genesis version), but with an extra option screen (allowing you to change the button controls, adding 2 directional rotation (can only rotate left otherwise IIRC) and hard drop to the game).

Lately I've been playing the PSP version of it. It's good, though i don't really enjoy the visuals & music as much as in GB version of it.

Will do at first chance, thanks; i've seen some videos of GM3 and it looks nice.
When I was 4, literally my first gaming experience was when my neighbor Holly asked for my help to pass the octopus in Ecco the Dolphin; we tried swimming slow, fast, slow then fast -but it always got us. You think you've adopted the getting-stuck; but I was born in it, molded by it!

I love Tetris! I don't have a commercial version of the game, but I play often on Tetris.com :)
Easy. A Hyrule Fantasy on the NES.

Beat Dungeon One. Now what? (Given the game doesn't give you even the slightest hint towards anything, you're left to wander the overworld. Not my kind of ideal gameplay.)

The Secret of Monkey Island on Amiga. Couldn't figure out how to get the key in LeChucks room. So we had to ask someone.
