Judicat0r: for Quake the mouselook was patched in later after release
clarry: That would be surprising news to me, if true. Do you happen to have a source?
I don't have a source.
I remember when Quake came out that I had to play it KB only because it didn't have the ML in the options I can swear it.
Judicat0r: ...while for Quake the mouselook was patched in later after release,...
toxicTom: Quake had mouse look from the first shareware version. I know, because I played it. :-)
What they "forgot" was a proper options entry to enable it (it was per default set to Doom-like controls, with mouse only for left-right, and with that terrible "look-spring" on sloped surfaces).
But
+mlook in autoexec.cfg was your friend.
Ahhhh that explains everything, at the time I didn't even know about console commands and didn't play the demo at all.
You guys really puzzled me and left me wondering how couldn't I see it....
That checks with the words of John Carmack from the Joe Rogan's Esperience podcast: the man itself still to these days regrets to have rushed the release of Q1 instead of a more polished game.
He was actually commenting about how brutal the multipllayer portion of the game is but that totally checks.
