Dark forces and Dark forces 2: Jedi Knight work with keyboard only, they've got an auto-aim function. But obviously a lot easier with keyboard+mouse.
Thanks, everybody. These all look like great recommendations.

Cyberway: Play System Shock. Third one is on the way and its bit Cyberpunkish. Hacker/netrunner stuff.

Time4Tea: System Shock is awesome, but I tried playing the first one a couple of years ago on a laptop with a trackpad and it wasn't so pleasant. The parts where you have to fly through cyberspace were particularly tricky/annoying.

I strongly recommend the OP to get a USB mouse. For $5-10, you will greatly enhance your FPS experience.
I kinda agree. System Shock 3 looks like some Doom/Horrrox mix, wisht they could push it forward Cyberpunk.

Judicat0r: I would advice against playing Quake, Dark forces, System Shock keyboard only (it's good anyways) because, while for Quake the mouselook was patched in later after release, is a title which relies on vertical development of levels exactly like Dark Forces so are two games that makes sense to play with mouselook, System Shock was designed to be played mouse only and while you can do without it it gets annoying quickly.
I've played through Dark Forces. By default look up and look down are keyboard only - I played through the entire game with keyboard look up/down. (That being said I did use mouselook, but it is not a requirement as the two blaster weapons only require you to point in the general direction of the target to hit them)
Not sure I'd play Build Engine games without a mouse. I mean you can, people did it, but they would be more negatively impacted IMO than Doom engine stuff.

oldgamebuff42: Hello all,
Like the topic title says. Particularly I would appreciate Good Old Games that are currently available on GOG that i can play with the keyboard only. I'm open to all franchises and genres. The reason I say keyboard only playable is because I have a laptop with a touchpad, and I am minimzing "want" spending during this pandemic(yes, I see video games as a need, lol) and I'm not going to buy an extra mouse any time soon and I refuse to battle with touchpad aiming, even if that's possible, and I'm not sure it is.
I forgot, Tomb Raider 1-3 and probably 4-5 should all be playable on keyboard-only. There's some shooting but they're more action-adventure/puzzle-solving.
You can't go wrong with "Painkiller: Black Edition" which IMO is the greatest FPS of all-time.
The best ones have already been named (Doom), but there are also two freeware titles you could check out that should work with keyboard only, the Chex Quest trilogy and Harmony. Unfortunately, the original website of Harmony seems to be gone, so you'd have to make do with third party download sites like this one, and Chex Quest was recently remastered with HD (and mouse controls), and while still free, is now officially distributed via Steam only, it seems. But you might still be able to find the original classic freeware trilogy somewhere on the net (I don't want to link to abandonware sites, but you'll figure it out yourself).

OP should really get a mouse. I work and play with a very cheap Logitech M90 and have zero issues, it`s great.

About that recommendation, I've been playing a lot of Doom 2 recently. Definitely play it if you haven't already. It's very good.

You'll find this helpful as well:

Yeah. There's also endless mods for Doom and Doom 2 of course. Really if you want keyboard only FPS fun on the go with a laptop, the ZDoom source port engine is a treasure trove of endless entertainment.

That would be surprising news to me, if true. Do you happen to have a source?

Quake had mouse look from the first shareware version. I know, because I played it. :-)

What they "forgot" was a proper options entry to enable it (it was per default set to Doom-like controls, with mouse only for left-right, and with that terrible "look-spring" on sloped surfaces).

But +mlook in autoexec.cfg was your friend.

I don't have a source.
I remember when Quake came out that I had to play it KB only because it didn't have the ML in the options I can swear it.

Ahhhh that explains everything, at the time I didn't even know about console commands and didn't play the demo at all.
You guys really puzzled me and left me wondering how couldn't I see it....

That checks with the words of John Carmack from the Joe Rogan's Esperience podcast: the man itself still to these days regrets to have rushed the release of Q1 instead of a more polished game.
He was actually commenting about how brutal the multipllayer portion of the game is but that totally checks.
Well I broke down and got a mouse. Even so, I'm greteful to all who recommended gam,es in this thread. I'll probably wait till there's a sale and get a few of those.
