Elmofongo: USBs did not exist in the DOS era So would that make Wing Commander 1 and 2 harder to use
The interface doesn't matter there, your real operating system is going to handle the real hardware. The DOS games are going to run in software emulation inside DOSBox and imagine that they are being controlled by some contemporary joystick. Unfortunately this also means that the games aren't going to see a feature set beyond the limitations of DOS-era joysticks. The common options for joysticktype= in dosbox.conf are:

4axis: 4 axis and 4 buttons
fcs: 3 axis, 4 buttons, 8-way hat
ch: 4 axis, 4 buttons and an 8-way hat, but no more than one button can be pressed at a time.

It depends on the game which kind of joysticks it supports and the way they work is not always highly configurable. For instance, the X-Wing and TIE-fighter only roll with a buttonpress+left/right, not from rudder, and theres not much you can do about it. The DOS versions also don't support throttle without an external program.

fcs is usually better than ch if the game benefits from a hat but doesn't need all 4 axis. This setup may benefit from swap34=true if you have problems with throttle.

Sometimes you can use the internal mapper of DOSBox to assign keyboard events to joystick buttons or hat to expand its functionality beyond what the original game supports. For instance in Descent a hat would be nice but neither fcs nor ch are desirable because one will lose an important axis and the other the important ability to press more than one button at a time. So for that I use 4axis and use DOSBox mapper to map the hat to keypresses that slide the ship, which is pretty perfect.

(I do my own dosbox setups, I don't know if GOG.com has done a good joystick configuration for you already)

Elmofongo: USBs did not exist in the DOS era (and man that sounds so noobish of me, though I was born in the 92)

So would that make Wing Commander 1 and 2 harder to use with the Joystick you offered me?

Darvond: Not with the power of Dosbox. Dosbox has a hardware layer that can not only detect, but also implement the controllers of choice.
Uh Darvond your recommendation is worthless. Because it says the order is outside my zone. Bascially whatever they ship this perticular stick from is out of reach where I live.

Got another recommendation? Preferably within my zone?

Sigh I will keep it in mind though.

Besides I was deciding whether to order either 2 things.

This flightstick, or buy Hardcovers of Middle Earth books. So I ended up buying The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and The Children of Hurin from Amazon.

Also you want to know what I realized. Ordering physical things online can be such a pain in the ass if the body shipping it cannot deliver it to your area.

Its times like this I wish lived in a place like New York. (As in I don't feel restricited in what I order)

Ah, New York. Where you can rent a tiny apartment for 2k-3k a month.

Personally the one place in the USA I like to visit is Calfiornia. Espeicially Los Angeles.
CH Fighterstick. Doesn't feel as high-end as the old venerable Thrustmaster F-22 I owned, but also probably won't need tech support calls to have the thing sent back to the factory and have the potentiometers rebuilt. It feels like it'll stand the test of time and last 20 years, if not more. Best flightsim gaming stick I've ever owned.

Elmofongo: What the title for real this time I am going to purchase a joytick for flight sim games like Wing Commander, Descent, and Star Wars X-Wing/Tie Fighter games.

The other thing is that it has to be from Newegg since I have an account on the website and so far the website has done beautifully when it comes to mail delivery. (Got my good gaming mouse from their site)

So recommend me a great joystick for games like wing commander and mechwarrior?
Depends on your budget but I own a Saitek X52-Pro flightstick/throttle system as well as the Saitek rudders and it is the best thing I've ever had the pleasure of using with any kind of flight simulators or flight combat games. It has an insane number of buttons/dials/gizmos on it, a programmable LCD panel, game profiles changeable in-game without letting go of the stick, and is fully programmable to an insane degree via the included software which makes it compatible with virtually every game ever made including ancient MSDOS games via keyboard emulation.

There are many other fantastic products on the market also, so you might want to research the list of most popular companies still producing flight sim hardware and look at some of their top products, but when I did that years ago I settled on the Saitek gear as being the best balance of features and functionality for the price for my desires.

Here are links to my current flightsim hardware:

http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/pedals.html

Head tracker (only works with certain games, they have a list on their website):
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-TrackIR-4-PRO.html

This hardware dramatically increases the immersion and fun in any flight sim/combat games beyond anything cheapo hardware can provide. Highly recommended!

Update: In case you have any questions about game compatibility with devices like this, the software included with the hardware allows these controllers to appear to the operating system as old style joysticks and to emulate the keyboard etc. which allows them to be used with ancient games that don't know squat about USB or other fancy new stuff. You can assign keyboard keys/macros and other fancy stuff to any button, and can even for example divide the throttle into 10 sections each 10% of the full throw, then define keys to press as you transition from one band to the next in either direction independently. This allows for example to use the throttle with games that could only increase or decrease speed using something like +/- on the keyboard back in DOS. I've even programmed the hardware to be able to control things in Mozilla Firefox, and in my music software Cakewalk Sonar. Basically the hardware will work with absolutely anything. You could even make a profile to control Zork text based games from 1980 with if you were really bored. :)

Hope this helps. :)

So I think I can order this one now. Because it says "Sold and Shipped by Newegg"

I prefer ordering from the website themeselves than from some third party (you can order from third party bodies that use Newegg to sell their products)

EDIT: I successfully ordered it :)
