Hi,
Anyone noticed, that the browser download links have been changed to the galaxy included ones?
Have not find a way to keep the classic links selected, other than manually. Every time.

Was there an announcement about this, that I missed?

Just wasted nearly 50 GB of downloads.

Optional my a**. At least Steam does not lie about their system.

Yes you did... it is here.

Galaxy is still 100% fully optional, even with the Galaxy powered installers you can opt-out of installing Galaxy under the installer settings. Under MORE is the classic installers which are 100% Galaxy free.

There is currently no way to set classic installers as the default method (except with a script such as the one provided by
Adalia Fundamentals), but GOG has stated they are looking into possibly adding a way to do this.

Thank you for your reply. Now I know.

It is good to know, that if you need any information about GoG's changes, then just check every single forum thread.
Because it would be too much for them to actually announce it or warn you about it.

Thanks again.
This "fully optional" thingie just reminded me of this scene:

And yeah, it's from "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" :-P
The fact that GOG Galaxy is included in the installer does not change the fact it's optional. You don't have to install it, you don't need it to run the game.

God only knows what they'll come up with next, because fig leafs don't get any smaller than the one GOG is wearing.
Yes it's still optional. But those bundled toolbars you get on random software are also optional, but I doubt anybody likes them.

Most importantly, Having Galaxy bundled with EACH AND EVERY installer wastes GOG's Bandwidth, GOG's storage space, my bandwidth, and my storage space. And both bandwidth and storage space cost money and downloading extra content takes extra time and unchecking those tickboxes take extra time and are annoying and annoying your consumers (I doubt GOG still sees us as community because of the lack of communication in recent times) is hardly a good move.

If there is a way to make the Galaxy-laden installers the primary, easiest-to-access files, then there is a way to have the "classic" installers as the primary, easiest-to-access files.

Don't forget that the links to the "classic" files once resided in the place where the Galaxy-laden files are now found. It took extra effort to move the links to "classic" files to another location and put the new links in their place, as opposed to leaving the non-Galaxy installers as the default.

If they can manage to allow the customer to change settings for chat, payment, 2FA, etc., along with settings within Galaxy itself, then there's no reason why the same can't be done - on a customer-by-customer basis - to allow default access to the different download options, including the no-longer-supported Downloader.

That gripe said, this may be planned for a larger site update slated to arrive in the future. But for now it feels like an unnecessary - albeit somewhat minor - annoyance.
