amok: so... are you saying Steam was the first DRM? i don't think anyone has made such claims..

(and you never owned the game, it was license back then also, the only thing you owned was the disc... but thats sidetracking it a bit)

Caesar.: Some of those seem to think that anything other than Steam is not legit. Anyway, there was a time before Steam, even before online key activation, when there was nothing like nowaday's DRM.

that's not how I read it. I thought they where saying that gOg and/or DRM free = piracy, not that everything not Steam is piracy.
Le me playing Spear of Destiny: Look in the manual on page...
Even Pirates Gold still has that amusing flag identification quiz. Starflight has a program to help you input the docking code.

visconteprimus: It's simply incredible! Many people on Steam are going to piss off due to a growing presence of DRM like Denuvo.

So, they try to "wake up" other users about this issue (which probably will ruin videogaming).

The replies are... Very dishearthening, at least: the majority don't care about the ethical problems behind DRM. But this is quite predictable: there is a lot of ignorance about it.

The thing that amazed me, however, was a little group of users. Theese guys have replied that GOG itself is a sort of pirated games store...

What the Hell is going on in those minds!?

Sorry for this outburst...
Was it Steam or /v/? I remember seeing that pirated games store thing on /v/ a day ago.

Typical human behaviour. If it doesn't affect them, it's no problem. Very few people will care until it bites them in the ass.

Not one bit of critical thinking, that much is certain.
It's not that I'm not concerned about DRM, it's simply the fact that there are many games (Blizzard, AAA etc.) that will likely never show up on GOG, at least not in the near future, and I'd like to play them. I have a little library of mostly older games on GOG (the whole reason I signed up for an account years ago, I'm more interested in legal re-releases of older games than the DRM free aspect), and a substantial Steam library of hundreds of titles (purchases, gifts, bundles).

Breja: "Everything"? How would that even work? Is water only 90% water? What's the other 10%?!
Plastic :(
are we still on chemical makeup?

I'll admit, it's more fun that he actual topic. :P
White-knighting DRM and bashing DRM-Free products, is old. Goes back more than a couple of years back, at least in Steam forums. Problem is, it is not only a possible a$$pull by devs for whatever reason applicable, aforementioned etc, but even normal users have regularly expressed, strongly defended and tried to impose this particular opinion, before.

Deadlocking yourselves into an argument with them is a never ending circle and unfortunately, they can provide convincing arguments, however strongly and validly those can be debunked, countered, or even proved to be wrong by numbers (especially the one that DRM-On won't magically result into more sale numbers achieved).

Don't fall into this trap. Entering an argument with stupid people can only be lost and forfeit a case, since they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. They don't value themselves or their rights, they don't aspire to get a better agreement for using the product they purchase the rights to, would be normally their own problem and loss... Alas, they spread that cancer by trying to convince others, lel.

While i am not a regular at Steam (far from it, actually), i have also seen a number of people praising DRM-Free practice and pros, over DRM-ed products. Some of them, even directly mention GOG... There was even a steam moderator once participating in a discussion for/against gog's features offered VS steam's, before. Probably those people got triggered by getting steam "badmouthed" or something, lol

Spectre: No because they're dragging everyone down with them. Now it's spread to serious hardware like VR.

Silverhawk170485: VR is not serious. It is as serious as the motion controllers of the Wii were before. There are only a few serious games, the rest are only techdemos. Playing with VR is very tiring. There is no chance for longer game sessions. It's just a hype at the moment but in reality it's only a very expensive toy. It is nice to have but not really crucial for gamers.
Objectively, it is.
Both from a price and performance perspective. To say that the future of gaming being a gimmick is incredibly short sighted.
