Life's a gamble.
If you really don't like it you can ask to trade with someone. You can also look at it this way: you dropped four dollars for something that costs twenty. I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

DieRuhe: Yeah, I got Lego Batman. Wasn't excited. To me that's the kind of game that should be played on a console. Stopped me from taking any more chances too.

SkelettalAngel: if you dont want lego batman can i have it..not sure if thats possible..so yeah if u dont want it ive been looking for a lego game to play with my sis you'd make me happy if u could gift it
Sure, no problem. I don't know how to do it offhand, though; maybe I'll have to contact support and have them make it giftable or something. If anyone else knows, great, because I'm drinking beer tonight and I don't want to do too much thinking. :-)

Totally understand people who are frustrated by this, but I ultimately concur with a lot of the early posts in this thread. GoG ain't the bad guys here. It's not loot boxes. It's not gambling.

I've opened 3 stars so far and got 3 good games. I won't play one of them (Not into horror, maybe I'll ask for GoG to turn it into a gift copy so I can give it to someone), but the other two are good games that I'm very happy with - and ones I never would have played it if weren't for the promo.

One game was Holy Potatoes: A Weapon Shop (Would have preferred the space one, but oh well) and the other was Telltale's Monkey Island game.

The horror game was Layers of Fear, a good game but not one I'll actually play sadly - don't have the balls for horror games.

So, in the end, I vote "YES PLEASE" to the whole promo. It's a fantastic, consumer-friendly idea, and I want to see more of it.

eVinceW21: CD Projekt...

Your "Stars" - They're Lootboxes.

Didn't you guys just assure everyone that you wouldn't be pulling this garbage with Cyberpunk? Yet here we are... and now I have my doubts.

Anyone who's bummed that they got a game they'll never play out of a lottery is stupid and has no one to blame but themselves... and CDP. But first and foremost themselves. Just be ashamed of CDP. I thought they were supposed to be better than this.
The term "Lootbox" has a very different connotation. If there were games on GOG that you couldn't puchase directly and had to go through the "Stars" gambling system to get - then yes, these would be Lootboxes.

And that's why I avoid this - because AFAIK GOG doesn't use its Gog Connect system avoid games you already own on Steam. Or... does it?

Then again, I also have a multi-thousand game backlog, so even if I was guaranteed to game a game I don't own, it wouldn't be smart to play.

askelly35: Just a comment about the "Stars" promo.. I got a game called Panzers Phase one....it's a strategy game and
I don't play strategy games.... so this is a dud for me. Kind of like getting a lump of coal....

Almost all my games are adventure or action - I thought the Stars promo would look at what you've already got in your library and be something suitable... Not so...

Anyway just a warning to other folks that it's a bit of a gamble....

Cheers
You can trade it for another game or stop gambling...

It is plain gambling.

By the way, cool avatar, bro.

drmike: A suggestion that has been made previously: If you don;t like the game you received, why don't you do what's been suggested many many times before and open up a support ticket and ask for either a wallet refund or have them change the game into a gift code?

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_winter_sale_begins_grim_fandango_goes_free_c477e

https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/sections/115000960053-FAQ-Winter-Sale-2017

You can open a support ticket directly from your orders page:

https://www.gog.com/account/settings/orders

To the right of the order number, there's a drop down menu with one of the options being to open the ticket.

Hope this helps
Thanks for your reply. I had assumed that like 'gambling' once you pays yer money, it's gone... it never occurred to me to ask for a refund... but maybe I will....

Cheers

Why not culture yourself and learn to enjoy something different? There's no reason to stick with the same things forever. You only grow when you try new experiences. Maybe this was the time the universe wanted to tell you how much you would enjoy them if you gave them a decent chance?
Never tried that, but assumed one would get a key and could decide to either unlock the win or trade it away. Now I'm glad I never tried it.

You could do that in previous editions of this kind of "mystery sale". You could either buy a star/piñata/whatever for yourself, or directly as a gift so you could trade it/give it away as you saw fit.

The only downside of this option is that you no longer were guaranteed a game you didn't already own, so you could get absolutely anything from the available pool.
