Worth it for the single player game?.Hows the AI ?
i found both 1 & 2 not really fun, 2 is more entertaining but, you might as well go and see for yourself with the discount atm. 2 can be quite fun, and with choosing between turn based and real time with pause play there are several options

Niggles: Worth it for the single player game?.Hows the AI ?
Shit. A player who is familiar with the game and how their team works will almost always win vs the AI unless there is some serious RNG favoring the computer.

Here is my review on steam.

I will preface this review with the statement that while I recommend Blood Bowl, I can honestly say it is not for everyone. Blood Bowl is not a sports game in the traditional sense, but is a Turn Based Tactics game using sport as a skin to help define play. This means that there is a lot of moving parts to every turn and until you play enough to learn them, you will suck at this game.

Positioning, Risk Management, stress management and luck all play a large part of what makes Blood Bowl Blood Bowl. This comes to the forefront with Blood Bowls signature mechanic the Turn Over. Whenever something goes wrong, be it a player trips or an attack backfires, a Turn Over kicks in and your turn ends immediately, regardless if you have more players you want to use. Thus this makes almost every action have some weight as at best you will have 1 in 6 chance of it ending your turn! Thus understanding risks are super important. To an extent you can control the odds, and thus were mechanical knowledge comes in, but this is a dice game at its heart and when the dice say no... well that is were the stress management comes in. Also the odds are never really zero with with every part of a play needing 1 in 6 at worst to working, so you will see some crazy shit when the dice are hot and will be raging at the other teams complete bullshit play actually working.

Blood Bowl 2 is a mostly direct adaption of the Games Workshop board game of the same name, so it's rules and mechanics are learnable, as long as one is willing to study a 32 page rule book or watch a few hours of How to Play videos on Youtube. So to say that there is a learning curve is accurate. Blood Bowl 2 does have a tutorial mode of sorts with story mode, but you are not let off the leash with the full rules active until about a good 6 or so hours (and matches) in so you may have learned some bad habits and find the game has gotten a lot more frustrating really fast and may not know why. Also it not only restricts you to only playing as Humans, it gives you several advantages you will never see in multiplayer were the real meat of the game is. Thus one must put some effort into learning the games actual rules, before you can even hope to start getting good.

Also the game by design is not truly balanced in the sense that all teams are more or less powerful, and each team has it's own quirks. Halflings by example are the weakest team in the game by far, while Skaven are almost unbeatable if played well (and no one dies.) That said any team can win vs any other team, provided you play well and have a bit of luck. Blood Bowl 2 does give you a rough guide about how hard a team is to play and it is mostly accurate if a little suggestive on its ratings.

The high point of the game for me is character and team growth. As your players do things of note, like scoring touchdowns and inflicting injuries, they will gain experience and level up. This can be a simple as a new skill learned or as powerful as a stat up. All growth is permanent and its fruits can be used in future multiplayer matches! However all good things in Blood Bowl have a sharp edge, many injuries can cripple if not out right kill your players and these injuries are just as permanent. Some of the best teams in the game are also the most fragile and must run the razors edge lest they be broken beyond repair...

All of these things make the game hard for some people to get into it. Either they wanted Maddan LOR Edition, or don't want to put in the effort to learn how the rules work, can't deal with RNG and permadeath systems, or just don't understand it's a tactics games, with all that implies. But if you want game with a unique take on Football and want to have a good time throwing a goblin into the face of an opponent's star, this may be the game for you.
