Achievements Unlocked

Pillars of Eternity, the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and award winning cRPG revival, now includes GOG Galaxy support for achievements.

In order to start collecting achievements in-game, make sure that you're using GOG Galaxy to launch Pillars of Eternity. If you installed the game without GOG Galaxy, you can download the client and add the game to your installed library without losing your game and progress.

Interesting... your reply doesn't seem to be showing in the total replies column (it still reads zero, at least before I post this)

Yet another broken thing? :/

Usual case for as long as I remember. It usually fixes itself once the replies reach the second page.
I wonder which achievements I have unlocked thus far.
It read 4 replies when I saw it.

Are achievements retro-active I wonder? Irrespective, I intend to do a fresh start soon! Can't wait.

Have just checked it, yes they are retro-active :)

Are achievements set by the developers, or can GOG set them?

(Asking because on Steam there is a lot of broken achievements where developers don't fix them - not in Pillars of Eternity, except if you count the Kickstarter Achievement which only is available for Kickstarter preorderers, but in many other games)

Why add achievements in the first place, if nobody (except you, of course) could see them?

Developers. That's why relatively few games offer Galaxy achievements so far -- the devs have to add that element (along with things like CrossPlay support, etc.).

Do you know the GOG stance on broken achievements? Will they be removed manually from Galaxy then, or will the games remain uncompletable achievement-wise?

Also, I think I misformulated my question, sorry. For new games the answer is clear, but I meant also what is for older titles. Such as: Can the GOG team add achievements to (for example) Commander Keen or Might & Magic or something?

What I would like to see at least is for every game (where it applies) a checkbox for having finished it and having finished it 100 percent that a user can set for himself (and that is stored on GOG servers). Sure, that would not be classical acheivements, and nobody else could see it, but it would be a good reminder what games you already played through.
Which other games, at this point, have achievements? It seems like there aren't all that many...

I've no clue, sorry. Presumably most such cases will be fixed sooner or later, but whether those are problems each game's devs will have to fix, or glitches in Galaxy itself, only GOG/the game devs could say. (I don't use Galaxy, and haven't kept up with the official beta test thread, so maybe there's some relevant info in there.)

From what I remember from the Blue-texts' answers to other people who had asked this question, they cannot add achievements, as in most cases they don't have access to the game code, and even where the do, it would be a pain in the butt. Basically, don't expect achievements for most of the classic titles unless those same titles are also sold on Steam and offer achievements there (as presumably it wouldn't be too difficult to use the same criteria for Steam achievements in Galaxy achievements), or there are otherwise devs from the games' publisher/developer who are willing and able to add them for Galaxy.

Well, they are also visible for GOG staff, if that changes anything :)

Speaking solely of Galaxy achievements, there is Starmaker's list. I have no idea if there's any similar list of games that have their own in-game achievements.

I'm sure as Galaxy becomes more robust, the option to be able to see your friends' achievements will be added.
