PaterAlf: I saw Victoria some days ago. And while it isn't something special when it comes to the story, the cinematography and director's work are amazing. The whole movie is 138 minutes long and was shot in one take (and it isn't some kind of an intimate play). Don't think I've seen anything like that before.
Check out "Russian Ark"

I did a bit of a weird thing with movies yesterday. My partner picked them and it was fun, we were just looking for a decent movie, nothing amazing or overly impactful, just some good lighter fun. First we watched Assassins (Stallone and Banderas), and she really got a thrill out of Julianne Moore in it who she likes a lot (and the movie itself, she was so surprised how much she liked it.) So, she wanted to watch something else with Julianne Moore in it. For some reason a few days ago I brought up the movie "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle", and so when we looked at Julianne Moore's IMDB and saw that (which I had forgotten she was in) on it, we decided to watch that. I hadn't seen it since the mid-late 90s, it was very enjoyable and she liked it a lot too. So, we were figuring another movie might be a good idea, she said she'd love to see Rebecca DeMornay more and I said "well, she's not in a lot but, there's this other one called 'Never Talk to Strangers' that we could watch." (I wasn't up for Runaway Train at that point.) And of course, Antonia Banderas is in Never Talk to Strangers. So we had a weird actor loop thingie go on that was very interesting to experience.

I actually ended up watching this a little while back just because I wanted to be able to say I've seen everything the Wachowskis have done. It's a shame Sense8 wasn't given more time to find an audience by Netflix, probably the most original show since Breaking Bad.

Some recent recommendations:

Green Room
Blue Ruin
Nocturnal Animals

The Founder
Captain Fantastic
Moonlight

Wetlands
Look Who's Back
The Nice Guys

Docs
13th (Netflix Doc)
Requiem for the American Dream

A couple like Moonlight, Nocturnal Animals, and Captain Fantastic I expected not to like but was genuinely impressed with.

hah, Breaking Bad is horrible and Sense8 was really bad :þ

I wanted Sense8 to be good, and I started out with great interest through the first episode, but it ended up just being trash
I enjoyed The Big Sick very much. It's especially good if you know or are interested in Pakistani and Indian culture. I say Indian just because several of the characters are a Pakistani family but are played by Indian actors, like Anupam Kher. The movie is not a blockbuster but I think it came out in a limited release and is doing so well that it will get a wider release.

It's been getting a lot of good buzz. I'll have to check it out when it comes to video.

Well you're in the minority on both accounts and given our difference on Ikaru as well it looks less and less like we'll find common ground.
