Hello everyone!

So recently I was talking with a friend about gaming in general and the topic came up where we both kinda reminisced about games that everyone else seemed to hate but we personally enjoyed. Or games that got caught in a tidal wave of negativity due to mediocrity or just got plain forgotten after release.

To give a few examples, one of my favorite FPS games of all time is Call of Juarez : Bound In Blood. I really liked the "feel" and story of the game, plus the unexpected semi-open-world sequences in the game were really cool. Okay granted, the game got pretty good reviews but whenever I mention the game to someone else they've never heard of it.

Another one is the Risen series. Started Risen 3 recently and though I installed the enhanced mod which makes the game harder and changes combat and whatnot, this game seems to receive unnecessary hate from the public. I can understand if people don't like it, since it's very "Gothic" in style and has very peculiar gameplay. What I can't understand is why some people seem determined to piss on this game as hard as they can.

I've also noticed that a lot of games made by smaller developers usually divide opinions to two extremes. You've got people that genuinely enjoy them, and people who think those people are idiots and are wrong and have no idea what good gameplay is, and they should burn in hell along with the game.

My question is, do you have games that you enjoyed that had a bad reception, were relatively unknown or have crappy review scores?
Everybody hated "Rick Dangerous". How do they dare how do they dare.

People badmouth "Jaws Unleashed". I don't understand people.

There's also a lot of arcade ports on the Amiga that were despised by connoisseurs, but that I enjoyed a lot as I couldn't compare them with the originals.

Oh, yeah. As a customer, I am solely responsible for the success of this 'walking simulators' trend that everybody else hates. Sorry about that, guys.

There were many negative reviews for Omerta, but I really enjoyed it.
Duke Nukem Forever. I had a blast with it.
Alien/Zombie Shooter series, I love these games which are essentially Robotron 2084 clones on steroïds.
Perfect games to unwind and cause bloody gory mayhem.

Basically any shooter made by Orion Games, although I haven't played all of them, loved The Stalin Subway 1+2 and Hellforces. These games have a camp b-movie feel about them and did this 10 years ago when it wasn't trendy yet like now.
low rated
Muhammad sex Simulator!

Kill the Faggot!

Ethnic Cleansing!

I like the occasional trolling game and even if crappy, sometimes they actually are fun!
The Thief series has gotten a lot of negative attention over the years, Especially the newest release.
I personally have always loved playing them. Especially the newest release.

Yup. Should have remembered that one. A cool tactical game which reception baffles me. Maybe it used to be bugged, maybe people expected a full-fledged strategy game (mislead by the look of the map). But I've only had pleasure with it.

Somebody actually knows Rick Dangerous!!!
Man, that game is super hardcore I'm convinced the creators are sadistic. I love that game. Never beat it though.

To be honest, I was playing it with an infinite lives cheatcode. It was still absolute (hilarious) hell, but at least you didn't have to restart the whole game after a couple of deaths. I really wonder how honest players dealt with that.

Oh well, the reviews and comments answer that question, never mind.
Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, I actually enjoyed it ...though admittedly I played it well after it was all patched, so instead of having to deal with crappy controls, bugs, glitches and crashing- i only had to deal with crappy controls.

I also really enjoyed Blood 2, not as much as the first game, but I still liked it.
Biing! 2 - It got 17% from a german prude mag because of the nudy pics, but it's a really good business sim.
X-Com Enforcer is pretty damn fun.
I don't tend to look at review, especially gaming industry ones. They are purely driven by money and have no bearing on the product at all. User reviews I sometimes look at, mainly for keywords, say if its a physical copy does it have drm, if its here does it have any major issues - no mans sky is a good example, major hype people staying up all night to play it. Seriously get a life. I can wait a few years till it actually works and doesn't cost a kings ransom.
Now my backlog is huge ( thousands over all platforms) and i have played lot of poor games, have also played some of the above mentioned which are ok - not heard of the jaws one though. I just plough through the list, whatever suits at the time. If I don't get on with it I stop.
