Yes, I know there are better places to ask this. But what the hell, I like it here, and I've seen much stupider topics around.
My phone died, the screen is unresponsive, and since it was an old and obsolete device I decided to search for a new one. So I just got a 3rd Gen 16GB Moto G, and I'm experiencing slight buyer's remorse right now.

The reason being, while I am more than happy with the phone's specs, it's a device that's at the very end of it's life cycle. Motorola has already phased it out in favour of the G4. On the other hand the J3 seems to still be fully supported. At least as much as any low end device can be expected to be.

Any opinion on the two devices? Or am I being a wet blanket by not jumping in joy at having a moto g?
How exactly does smartphone support work? My only experience with smartphones so far has been with a huawei. Which provided your typical chinese support, as in... none at all.

How much activity and patches releases do the samsung and motorola phones see on average? I'd imagine they're cared for like little birds, as opposed to being released into the wild like baby turtles.
