I don't know what game you are talking about but I think that is the game's idea of recycling. Ie. you don't just throw your unneeded scrolls to trash, to fill the landfills, but you recycle them to other heroes who might have some use for them.

One hero's trash is another hero's scroll.

I thought giving stuff to heroes is basic waste management? There are always heroes traipsing about on one quest or another, I just give them my trash and they take it. Never know when you might need a Broken Glass of Sharpness or a Moldy Lettuce of Regret.
