I don't have Caesar 3 but I think I'll just start with the earliest Sierra I have and work up.
Good choice, best to ignore the Zeus fanboys, for now at least ;)
Btw, the mechanics are totally unique, and massively different compared to simcity so don't hesitate to ask questions on the game forum.

The absolute best might be Emperor: Rise of the middle kingdom, but sadly that's not on gog yet.

GR00T: Take D:OS and Pillar od Eternity off the list if you still don't want to invest long hours like in Wsateland 2. They're fairly long RPGs (at least, they were for me).
Yeah but since i've asked for a shorter/simple game and i completly trust my fellow goggers... and i'm too lazy to edit them out. :p
