The release of Prodigy Tactics today reminded me that several games on GOG have some really gorgeous background art and promotional images. I'm not sure if they're created by the devs or if someone at GOG is responsible, but it's often enough to get me to check out a game I wouldn't look twice at otherwise. Sometimes the game itself is a bit of a disappointment by comparison, such as Airships: Conquer the Skies, which had promotional images like the one on the linked page, but turned out to look like this.

Does anyone else have any favourite pieces of background art here on GOG?

Edit: dammit links aren't working.

We talked about where to find these background images but I can't find the thread right off. Google is sending every search to their recaptcha script. Lots of fun.

If you view source on any of the game pages:

view-source:https://www.gog.com/game/airships_conquer_the_skies

Look for the og:image tag in the header. It'll give you the url for the background image.

I know this wasn't the point of your thread but it's a good way to look at the different images with the game information in front of it.

Hope this helps.

Just remember to change the .jpg to .png to get the lossless image.

Locating the background images is actually pretty easy, at least on Firefox: you just right-click and choose 'View Image' and then copy the web address. The problem is that some of the links get broken when I try to post them here, even though the preview works fine. I guess it must be something to do with GOG's anti-spam measures.

Anyway, thanks for the GOGDB link - that's very helpful. It was actually this image I was looking for regarding Airships: Conquer the Skies. Here's the one for Prodigy Tactics.
