The speedrunning community is back with its main annual event: Awesome Games Done Quick - a charity gaming marathon - will feature over 150 hours of live speedruns, non-stop from January 8-15 [schedule]. All donations go directly to The Prevent Cancer Foundation.

== The Giveaway ==

In order to bring more attention to the queen of all speedrunning affairs, let's have a contest for the occasion. I read an article about the worst video game covers in history and wondered what mindset it would take to come up with design disasters like that.

Turning this over to you to be sloppy at Photoshop (or whatever image-distorting software you barely know how to use) with the challenge of producing the actual worst box art yet.

= How to enter =

1. Create a truly atrocious custom cover for a game of your choice
(in case you'd like to use a template to get you started, go here)

a. Make it hard to look at
b. Like, seriously: OW! MY EYES!
c. Color harmony, composition, font temperature - don't bother
d. Haphazardly slapping it all together is encouraged
e. If your sense of taste has your facial expression in a death grip of panicky disbelief and mean loathing by the result, you might have struck gold

2. Link to the final image in your post (or attach it - if GOG has that working again)
3. Want your awful contribution to be considered for the giveaway? Please say so

Example - I trust you can do way worse than me :D

From all entries, I will pick the most scarring game cover to win one US$ 6 (or less) GOG game.
The giveaway will end sometime after AGDQ has finished (I will provide plenty of warning beforehand).

Seriously, nice GA; it's actually got my creative juices going a little.

Wonder what I could come up with. Too bad I don't have Photoshop.

Sounds good :) For image editing software, you could download the excellent & free (which is what I use). There are lots of free online options too, [url=https://pixlr.com/editor/]Pixlr for example looks neat (haven't tried that one though).

Subject matter reminds me of Gaiares for the US market. Compare to the original JP release. Not in, since I can't possibly top that.

First of all, thank you for this fun idea and giveaway. I am a fan of speedruns, watching someone break a world record after many hours of trying and failing is very satisfying, in an odd way.

Now, let me be the first to grace you and the fine folks of this forum with my creation, a work of art if I may say so myself. It should be noted that I am an 2D artist with a reputation gained over almost 700 years. So, fellow artists, do not be discouraged by my work, even though you cannot win anymore, you should enter too.

Here, ladies and gentlemen, comes my interpretation of The Doom of the Doom of Skelelord IV, more commonly known as Dark Souls III.

Wild. This is the stuff. Thanks for bringing Jamie Bunker, professional gamer and mullet rocker, plus his expert opinion on Gaiares to my attention too. Hard to top I agree, but I have hope (or is it fear?) the community can do it.

700 years of being at art have finally led you to this contest, and we couldn't be more blessed (or cursed - so glad I donned my shades before clicking that image link). I'm pleasantly disgusted by your screwed color palette and how delightfully vague and all over the place ....this is.

I'm also happy the studio went with that particular game title, because Dark Souls sounds totally bland in comparison. And I am obviously a critic now. Changed my life, sure thing, I'm gonna go puke now. Proper entry, you are so in.
