I wanted to chime in here, even though it's an old thread.

I don't know why people report Antivirus issues to the software in question. This isn't GOG's fault. But it IS fixable by Avira. They would just need to whitelist the software.

Why nobody has thought to contact their support is beyond me. This should be an easy fix by them. I contacted their support and they're escalating it to a senior team.

Hopefully this gets this resolved, and high CPU load when updating games becomes a non-issue.

And to those nay-sayers saying you shouldn't install a third party antivirus, Microsoft's built-in AV is crap for protecting you once you start installing third party software. It's not known to catch viruses very well once your machine is infected.

"Well, no antivirus is good enough to catch stuff." Look, I've used many antiviruses, and I'd agree with you, except I've seen Avira catch and remove a rootkit upon install of the software before (popped up a message saying I had a rootkit, and rebooted into a recovery environment to remove the driver). Not only that, but I've actually shared Avira with other disbelievers before and they generated a bunch of zero-day malware themselves, and it caught everything.

I should also mention that Avira doesn't actually have a high false positive count. It did used to, but they addressed that.

Don't install their pro with the firewall though. The firewall's.. pretty bad. The free is all that's needed, and it also has cloud scanning, which to my knowledge no other free AV has.

So, I advise you actually try something before shoving a bunch of hate at it. And this goes for games too, something the I despise the digital era for, with all the reviews going live before release of a game, often ruining the chance for the game to succeed as people decide to avoid the game once they hear a biased review talk negatively about it.

Anyway, rant over. I hope that Avira can get this resolved soon. I'll report back with any updates. I think this has been an issue for long enough.

If Avira didn't solve it over 1000 days ago, don'tcha think any potential ships have sailed regarding that?

Also, how the hell did you find this crypt of a thread?
