Current owners get all the new stuff for free!

Astebreed, the high-octane 3D shoot-em-up where you obliterate alien swarms with your mad piloting skills, just got updated to the Definitive Edition. The game also had its price increased but owners of the regular edition get upgraded for free. Those who don't own it already, can get the Definitive Edition 50% off until November 13, 5PM UTC.

There is a lot of cool stuff included in this Edition - most notably:
- Improved textures, better 3D models, 1920x1080 support and various other graphical improvements
- New songs to accompany your bullet-hell antics
- Additional and improved upgrades
- Optimized controller system
- Additional episodes and scenes that expand the story

Watch the trailer.

Let's pop the update on the forum.

Yeah, let's pop it :)

Maybe with these expansion I will finally be able to understand what the story was all about. Unfortunately I probably still will struggle to survive instead of concentrating on the story. I am curious how they improved the controls and of course I cannot wait to see this in 1080p. Thanks for the update.

You get the updated version for free if you already had the original version. Sadly since I didn't have the original, I'll have to wait for a sale to get this one.
Had to stop the game because a boss was way too hard. Yes I played on easy. Yes I have no problem when I can just "R" and retry like in Hotline Miami but this had me watch unskippable cutscene before I could try again.

UPDATE:

oh, they DID update that maybe. THANKS! the full list, weirdly only mentioned in the changelog in the library, is:

New arrange mode
Optimized controller system
Added and improved upgrades
Adjusted enemy arrangements and patterns for all stages & difficulties
Additional episodes and scenes adding to the story
Adding new songs
Improved graphics and 1920×1080 support
Improved 3D models
Improved textures and higher resolution
New compression format to improve details, lighting etc.
Improved backgrounds and detail effects

Yes, and? I fail to see the point here. It still is a debatable decision.
Thanks for the free upgrade.

I'm gonna assume it's based on the PlayStation 4 port that allowed for the right analog stick to be used for the Focus Lock-on attacks.

Thank you for the free upgrade too, very nice of GOG and the publishers
high rated
FTL got a very big update (bigger than Astebreed as it seems) and the price was not increased. That’s why I bought and gifted ~10 copies of FTL up to this point (bought at full price) to support on of the greatest devs ever. I understand that some devs want to get more money for more content but I'm not sure if it turns out fine for them in a long run.

They were replying to the fact you said it was a paid upgrade.

Still not making much sense.

The PlayStation 4 port of Astebreed was actually around the $20 USD range on the PlayStation Store, so I'm guessing with this having that version's content on PC that Edelweiss feel the need to raise the price for the PC version...

What's the complaint here? If you already own the game, you get the upgrade free - so no 'paid upgrade' there. If you don't own the game, you can get it for 50% off right now (still not a 'paid upgrade' if you didn't own it in the first place).
