hi,

i haven't bought GOG games lately, but now i'm considering buying something. but, last time, when i bought and played Pillars-of-Eternity, there was the issue of patches being late.

i mean, the game after release received a lot of patches from the developer, but somehow the patches were there on the steam-version, but the gog-version got them much later (days/weeks). i know 'days' sounds fast, but when you're having a game-breaking bug, that is fixed in the steam-version, it's not fun.

if i remember correctly, the explantion was that while on steam, the developer releases the patch directly, on gog they are given to gog, and then gog releases them.

so i'd like to ask, how is it working lately? are the games getting the patches the same time as the steam-version?
Still the same, far as I know. On Steam devs update the game directly, on GOG the updates go through the GOG staff. So you can expect GOG updates to take longer to appear.

They did announce an automated process for pushing updates via Galaxy, though (not sure if it's already available). Then again, even with this being the case developers will surely continue to prioritize Steam and often update the GOG versions notably later.

They did? I know that Galaxy should be able to update games automatically, like Steam, but I didn't think that devs could offer these updates without GOG intervention.

They're planning on allowing developers to instantly push updates to Galaxy users.

Planning in January though.

Yeah, according to a post by a blue a few months ago they want to allow developers to push updates directly. But as I said, I don't know if this functionality is available yet.

Sometimes though, your definition of "convenience" can change quite drastically in a very short timespan. For instance, when there's roadworks going on in your neighbourhood and someone digs up the wrong cable, and you suddenly find yourself without internet for three days, suddenly it may seem more "convenient" to still be able to play your games than, well, not to ;-)
