As I've said on the five or so threads on GOG mixes, they aren't dead. They're down for retrofitting.

Though I never did care much for them as they boiled down to "Uncle Widgets List of specific games on overtly specific criteria that he won't bother to fully describe to the outside viewer".

Even if that'd be the case, you don't break something about a month and a half before the general overhaul, then take it down completely so it can't even be accessed in a frozen state, and only THEN start to, just maybe, consider "retrofitting" it... And even if they would return in some form, seems likely that it'll be just the user version of the current curated collections, as in custom search results straight from the catalog, no place for user comments or ratings or manual sorting.
It would've been nice to have even archived pages in text form with no pics.
They were more useful than the tags in the store, for me at least, when searching through a specific genre.
I''m of the opinion that GOGmixes could have be slightly improved. For example, many of them could use some introduction text to better explain what they were all about. However, I would miss them if they were gone.
