Current router just can't hack it. Too many other wifi basestations in the area and it doesn't support 5Ghz band.

So looking at new shiny 803.11ac wifi router.

I've been few a few makes of router

My Asus RT-16 had a nice interface with enough options, but had a memory leak the needed the box to be booted every 2 weeks. (never got better no matter how many firmware updates)

Using D-Link as main router. Interface is horrible and it only chooses clearest channel on reboot.

Currently looking at

But not had any experience of TP-Link as a brand except for one cheap USB WiFi dongle that works well enough.
My family has one (it happens to be right next to me as I type this, as a matter of fact). Our internet regularly slows down to atrocious levels, and rebooting the router sometimes helps with that. On the other hand, we have ridiculously awful internet provided to our house, so it's certainly not entirely the router's fault and it may be more or less blameless.
Mine works fine.. I think.
No experience on TP wireless routers, but I have been using TP powerline adaptors for a few years now and they work flawlessly.

Might be an option for you to consider? Excellent speeds and no need to worry about constant channel problems.

here is a link though this is the 500mbps version (i am using the 200 version)

Most of our house has gigabit ethernet. But we do have tablets and a laptop that's uses the wifi.

I'm surprised laptop don't have powerline adapters built into their power supplies.
In order to have Wi-Fi at home I had to adapt my net connection using one oftheir pocket routers. It works like a charm, specially when combined with their range extenders.
I've been using both the WDR-3600 and the WDR-4300 with openWRT instead of the stock firmware for over a year now.
I like them a lot.

Price is great, range is good (no worse than my buffalo router that died on me - but I haven't tried a $100+ router and never will), performance is more than my needs require (streaming, surfing, etc.)

I run them as a primary router and then as an AP/network extender. For the first year with a wired connection between them, but now as a wireless bridge. In both cases, the performance has been excellent.
I'm using a TP-Link TL-WN822N to replace the crappy little Netgear stick adapter I bought just to get online and I just ordered a TP-LINK TL-WR940N V3 Wireless N450 Home Router to replace our aged Netgear WNR2000 v3 that I bought from a Goodwill Computerworks.

I haven't used a TP Link router, but I have TP Link wifi dongles on both pc's in the house, and they work flawlessly.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Let us know how it works out for you!
I rely on a TP-Link Wireless Router. I assume you're talking about the one that gets plugged with a main router? That works fine for me. Sometimes it becomes atrocious, but then when my internet is crappy, you can't tell if it was the cause or the ISP is.
