How are you finding the latest build? I haven't checked it out yet. I've only played the previous build. I figured I'd wait a couple of months, or possibly until version 1.0 before I try it again. Having set up a safehouse and more or less obtained complete self sufficiency, it didn't feel as if there was any more for me to do apart from exploring, but the incredibly big map makes that very difficult when you can only travel by foot. I'm hoping introduction of npcs, bicycles and perhaps a story mode would spice things up again.
Good question, i used to play it with a friend but since his laptop video card got fried that i haven't played (7 months ago i think). From i was checking on the forum it seems that the vehicles release is near (maybe next patch), i have to check the game again to see if they improved the combat.
I played it when it was first announced, back when the only way to buy it was Desura. It's good. A fun game. The newer builds seemed to drift away from the retro aesthetic I liked in the early versions.

I wish I could help you out there, but I played the game for the first time in January this year, so I don't know how the combat has evolved. What I can say is that I find it extremely satisfying to kill a zombie either in melee combat or with a gun. What is fairly recent, I think, is the ability to knock down zombies which makes it easier to take them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZfCVjqF8qM&feature=player_detailpage#t=699

I imagine you are talking about the new 3D models for your character and the zombies? I think I also like the old 2D models a bit more, not really sure, but it appears as if the game is highly moddable so hopefully people will create mods with custom character and zombie models. I'm pretty sure I saw one where you could make your character look like Ironman

Things like a more pixelated lighting. I wasn't even aware that they had gone to 3D models, but I can't say I'm shocked. The build I play is one that they originally released on Desura. I don't recall the version. I just liked it being a nice isometric 2D game. The retro aesthetic they captured in those early releases was perfect as far as I'm concerned. It's the gameplay I'm after in the end anyways. All else is distraction.
The old pixelated zombies looked like roswell aliens.

But at least they were all standing up. Last time I played (long ago, actually I think I discovered gog through the project zomboid forums) the characters were all walking and running at a 45% angle to the ground, as if they were advancing in water. I wonder if it's still the case, but it annoys me. I expected every character to fall n their face, and that was distracting.

But apparently everyone was either super happy about that, or just a reactionary traitor wishing for the return of the roswell zombies. Good times.

This is the way that they are walking/running as of the previous build, and I guess it is pretty slanted. Like an idiot I just tried running like that in front ot my desk, and I think I agree, I can't run like that without falling over :P
