richlind33: Hordes, man. Kill off all the generals and they'll stop regenerating. And as I recall, any faction you destroy will become a horde.

Barbarian invasion.... that sounds like a fun game?

I like Total war2.... i believe there is a newer game in the series but i remember reading about it and decided there was something about it i did not like, so i never bothered to buy it.

Its like Age Of Empires and Warcraft etc etc.... i liked the older games but the newer ones are frustrating and annoying to play..... but that is because i am more of a strategist and do not like having to jump around click fast jockey which those games put more demand on that side of things in the newer versions.

Same to a degree I like my RTS but in small doses. I still wish to play WarCraft 2 and the "new" StarCraft games. Over all I love the Total War series (not so much Empire) and hope to see future games still made for it.

BI is an expansion for TW Rome, which unlike Rome 2, is a great game. I like Medieval 2 but there's an awful lot of generic units, and since then it's been straight downhill for Creative Assembly.

If you like serious strategy you might enjoy Europa Universalis. I found it visually off-putting and set it aside for the time being, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.

As for RTS, I'll leave that to you and Fab Kitty, 'cause I hate it. : (

My prefered game in the TW series remains Medieval 2, with its kingdom expansion ( the American campaign in particular)

You should try some of the other games though

Shogun 1 and Medieval 1 are obsolete.

Many will tell you that TW:Rome is better than TW:Rome 2. For my part, I have mixed feelings on that one, but in the end, I would indeed replay the first rather than the second.

I really liked Napoleon. It plays differently, indeed, due to the prevalence of rifle units and to the importance of artillery. It fail in the grand strategy by lacking enough complexity to re-create war preparation in a pre-industrial age, but plys very nicely on the field, in in the smaller campaigns. Empire, well, is probably the weaker part of the lineage.

Shogun 2 is superb, and plays very well on the strategical level and on tactical level. Again, it plays quite differently than other games in the series.

For me Shogun 2 is fail because the auto-resolve is badly unbalanced and I'm sick of micromanaging battles. And the way it's mapped is none too impressive, either. But it's much better than anything else CA has done recently.

As for Rome 2, it's disgraceful how long it took for those arseholes to patch it. They are a thoroughly disreputable lot, Sega and Creative Assembly.
The concept of Medieval Total War sounds... strange, historically speaking, as during the middle-ages professional standing armies were all but unheard of.

There was feudalism, and there was no shortage of war -- ya know?
Yea when it comes to RTS battles i do not like to much micromanagement...... but worse yet, i hate individual unit 'hand holding'....... the need for excessive unit hand holding is what killed warcraft 3 for me..... and many other rts games, but most notably is warcraft 3.... in warcraft 3 your units are so dumb they really cannot handle anything properly without your attention, and that just sucks big time.

I dont know why they could not learn from Total annihilation? You dont need unit hand holding in that game..... well not unless you dealing with the terrible path finding! lol (that's why i only ever use aircraft in TA).

Maybe someday AI will be modestly intelligent and have some nonlinear functionality. And human beings won't be selfish, backstabbing, carnts. lol

Well as far as gaming is concerned, look at how units handle themselves very well without hand holding in Total Annihilation .... and its a19 year old game! So a game like warcraft 3 has no excuse for the units to require such intensive hand holding, its just awful, seriously!

Sounds like a superior game engine. Who made it?

Cavedog.... but i don't think being a superior game engine is the issue, the issue is that the developers of warcraft 3 designed it so the units require intensive hand holding because that is what they think people like, and i suppose people do like it because its a very popular game, but for me personally, i really HATE intensive hand holding of units.
